Only Princeton could've rejected this person. They'd much prefer to hear that your family has 10 million dollars than to accept a student with a story like this. Grats to her!

I wonder why when people see average, white NOT URM, then they all congratulate and stuff. But look at the stanford forums, there was a URM who got 1800SAT or something. However instead of saying it was a miracle and congratulating, they were complaining about being an URM and stuff.

Unfortunately I am guilty of such thinking too.

and I agree. the OP's sister is no where near normal. That was more impressive than 2400SATs, 4.0GPAs or any other honor achieved acedemically.

thats such an amazing story. it's not a "miracle" that those great schools accepted her - she totally deserved to go.

username: If he/she's Asian, that works too. :)

holy doo doo's thats an amazing life, filled with such hardships, congrats to her and good luck to you with your college ventures.

College apps are evil in the sense that they make me ungrateful of and even appalled by my secure, uneventful life. Your story is truly amazing. While I say that I wish I had something extraordinary like that to write about for my app essay, I am glad I did not have to through that kind of hardship so early in life. I feel so darn sheltered.

Congrats to your sister and keep us updated! =)
