Hey guys (ignore my id name my sister named it)
I missed my first year writing seminar… and am on probation
Fact is, my gmail was inaccessible during the vacation (im back in a country where VPN is necessary for gmail, and 90% times it can’t be connected) so i did not see the note that requested me to go to summer school.
two month later i received a letter of probation asking me to leave school because of the fyws.
After i tried to use my vpn, my google account was disabled (???
What are the chances of me appealing successfully?? I have good gpa, completed needed courses, and absolutely had no violations of school polices. (took many writing courses too)
You should contact your academic advisor immediately to find out your options, if any. You should also discuss your email situation to find out if there is a way to deal with this problem when you are home in the future.
@emorylover98 curious were why you didn’t take a fyws, its required for all students. Also, were you on probation before not taking the fwys and then receveived another probation or did you just get one probation. One probation probably wouldn’t result in an expulsion.
This is my first probation.
I didn’t choose the course because I was trying to transfer to peabody and there were miscommunications with the advisors (cuz peabody doesn’t require the fyws)
Your class advisor didn’t have you enroll in a first year writing seminar during the spring semester? That seems like a little bit of an oversight on their part. It also seems a bit unfair that if you did forget, no one mentioned that you’d have to take summer classes until you’d already left the country.
All you can do is to contact your advisor and explain the situation. Maybe contact the person who you were working with in order to transfer to peabody to help explain the situation you’re in.
I can’t say what will happen but the general pattern I notice with administrators is they’ll send a super mean sounding email initially if they’re having trouble getting in contact and basically say the worst possible thing that can happen to you, but then they don’t actually do that. They’re probably more upset about you not responding to the emails. Just do your best to explain and try to actually complete the transfer process to peabody, and I think you could be ok.
@fdgjfg thank you for the response. I have emailed my advisor, but am still very worried since the student handbook has clearly stated “student who fails to meet the sophomore standing will be dropped from the university”.
