I sent in my check for housing a few days before the deadline, but when I checked online it said that they received it on May 12 (it was due 5-10). Does this mean that I have no chance of dorming this coming fall?

The late submission doesn’t necessarily translate into no housing for the upcoming academic year. There are many students who apply for housing. Although the university wants to accommodate all its applicants, however, it is not possible for them to guarantee every applicant a living space; for there are a limited number of students it can accommodate, which is why it is important to meet the deadline. Similar to that of financial aid, housing is on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are on a waiting list, then I would suggest you wait until July or August before looking for an alternative housing option because many students forget to pay their first installment, decide not to attend UC Riverside, etc. and living spaces will open up for the people on the waiting list. I wouldn’t worry too much about housing for now.

I also sent a check and it wasn’t posted until May 15th (OOS check). I emailed the Housing department and they replied that as long as I had submitted my housing application online by May 10th, that it was not a problem at all - as long as my payment arrived shortly thereafter. You’ll be fine.
