I'm looking at MIT and I'm worried about my admission there. Can someone give me a fairly specific picture of what a confident resume to MIT might look like?
I know that they look for competitiveness and the will to change the world. I have those characteristics, but my SAT and extra curricular activities would drag me down a bit.

What were your SAT scores?

JW, because some kids on this board freak out when they get below a 780 in a section.

i don't know exactly what a "confident" resume to MIT would look like. I know that very few people can ever be "confident" of being admitted to MIT, unless they were very special.

why not post this on the MIT board? but really, mainly, it's important to "match" with MIT's philosophy. anyway, there's a lot about this on the MIT board. so... try looking there! :-)

a girl who was ranked #3 at my school, had great extracurriculars, perfect ACT score & a 2350 SAT on her 2nd take, & had an interview applied early action to MIT. she was deferred

Read the MIT admissions blogs. I think over time you'll get as much clarity as anyone can have on this subject. If you apply to MIT, be sure to apply to a safety

but be sure to apply to MIT if you like MIT. Don't let any college dictate your whole high school experience--do what feels meaningful to you.

my brother is a senior there, and I remember when he was applying, he had phenomenal essays / interview / math&sci. grades / SAT scores, but from what I know, his overall GPA wasn't spectacular. He was barely in the top 10%, actually...but I think to get into MIT you really have to do something special and extraordinary. near perfect math/sci grades and scores are necessary but not sufficient.

good luck
