I am student. I don't want to reveal my country due to privacy. I recently got my SAT Subject Test scores, and it was not what I had expected, and SAT scores matter a lot in international admission . I need to give SAT again in January, but the only problem is money. Can I get $1oo help from MIT alumni? Please help me because MIT is really important for me. I can actually study both Electrical and computer science (EECS) at MIT, which is not possible to study in my country. I am not desperate for "MIT" name on my resume; but I am desperate about the things I can do in future because of EECS. I am really good at Maths,Physics and Chemistry. But I was not able to prepare for exam properly. I had no books for preparation - I was relying solely on SparkNotes.com for my preparation. Unfortunately a week before the exam, their website went down for maintenance - even today it is down for maintenance. I was not able to take practice test.

I have never thought MIT as a school that can give me high paying job. I really don't care about the money. But I do care what I end up doing after 4 years of undergraduate education. I don't want to do something that I don't enjoy doing, and that is reason why I want to study EECS.

Please help me paying for SAT Subject test. I have already spent $400, which I saved over months to buy a new guitar, for ACT plus writing, SAT Subject test and TOEFL. I asked my school for help, but they don't have any funds for this.

PM me if you can help. I will give you all the details needed for registration. I will also send you my December 1 SAT exam admit card.

Thanks for reading my post. I really appreciate the time you spent on reading my post.
Thank You.

@toughman I have already tried asking CollegeBoard for help. They said that they can’t provide fee waiver for internetional studests.

@unicameral2013 I am really serious about this.

This is one of the most important decision of my life. Studying EECS means that I can actually make my crazy imaginations true. I don’t want to let this amazing opportunity go away. Please help me.

@Johny245 I am not going to tell exact score, but I scored around 750 in Physics and around 650 in MathsL2. I know these scores are really low, especially on maths, but I know that I can score much better if I get a second chance. I literally freaked out in Maths, since it was the first paper I took. I was not able to take practice test before exam because sparknotes.com went down for maintenance just 1 week before the test date! Now I know the pattern, I can score much more on both test.

On ACT, I got 36 in maths. Maths has always been one of my strongest subject. I was shocked when I saw my score. Please help me.

Oh, goodness. Relax! There are other great not-in-your-country schools that provide your major. Relying on MIT admissions so much is just not a great idea.

No 650 is not good. I can do much better than this. I just need 1 more chance. Please help me. I have to register before Dec 28 to avoid late registration fees.

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science aren’t subjects unique to MIT, and even if someone payed your registration fee, statistically, you will probably not get in. Calm down. MIT accepting you with your current scores is probably more likely than someone on this anonymous website paying your fee.

As lidusha said, just explain the circumstances. But I would not mention the sparknotes website thing, I feel like universities frown on studying for the tests. Everyone does it, but I don’t think you talk about it.

@lidusha I will probably explain admission officers about my situation, but I don’t feel that it will help me because it was my fault that I was not able to prepare properly. BTW I read your blog articles and they are really amazing! I wish someday I would be able to do the same thing.

@unicameral2013 Why would universities frown on studying for tests? And for MIT part, there are two reasons -

In 10th grade when I was watching a documentary on Robots , I saw Nexi - a humanoid robot designed at MIT - and it was first robot, other than R2D2 and C3PO, I saw on TV. It helped me developing an interest in robotics. At that time I didn’t know that MIT was ranked no.1 in the world. Actually I didn’t know about world ranking of colleges. I used to think that colleges were ranked nationally. It was in 11th grade when I found out that MIT is one of the best engineering college in the world. But by that time I was already in love with MIT.

I need some kind of financial aid and MIT has generous financial aid.

@CalAlum I am an international student, and there are few seats for international students. I don’t have any international awards. But I have passion for what I want to study. I just want to show MIT how much hard work I did. It sucks to see my scores because I worked my butt off to perform well on tests. I wish I could give exam again.

Thanks for all your advice. Your advice really helped me.

I’m sorry, but it’s extremely unlikely that you’ll be able to find someone to donate ~$100 on College Confidential.

While a low SAT score can be evidence to the admissions staff that you are not academically prepared for MIT, a high SAT score cannot on its own get you in. If you can find another way to show MIT admissions that you are academically prepared and passionate about expanding your current understanding of the world, that way might be more worth your energy, time, and money than finding funds to retake the exam. In particular, since you don’t have much time left before the application deadline, I would invest that time and energy in your application and essays.

You’ve gotten some good advice, and I don’t want to delete the thread outright. But it is a clear violation of CC’s terms of service to solicit donations, whether the purpose is admissions-related or not.
