Which of the fraternities would be considered "very clean-cut"? I know that there is significant variation, based on some of the information that I have read, but I am curious as to the specifics. Thanks!

I actually think that most, if not all, fraternities could be called "clean-cut." That said, each fraternity does have its own culture and set of traditions, which is great - Greek life at MIT is a lot more diverse than people sometimes give it credit for. In general, CPW is a great time to explore all of the living groups, and I would really recommend taking full advantage of it.

(Disclaimer: I am in a fraternity, so while I always try to present a well-rounded point of view, I'll admit I'm probably not 100% unbiased. :) That said, if any of you have more specific questions about Greek life, please feel free to follow-up either here or via PM.)

hmm wow
i actually never thought MIT would be like a party school haha
im actually really interested in applyingto MIT this coming NOV for early action…
plz chance me? thnx
and thnx for the great info lol

bump! 10 char!!!

Let me have my say on this:

When I came to CPW, I also had that impression, that MIT was too much of a party school. The reason why people get this impression is because CPW is really an anticipated event, and MIT students really let their steam off during those days. Honestly, once CPW was over, the amount of boisterousness (is that even a word??) dropped by at least 50%.

Having been for half a year: I have not drunk any alcohol or have to deal with any alcohol related problems, I have not gone to a party yet, and I am perfectly happy with my social atmosphere. Socializing for me is hanging out with my entry suitemates on week-ends in our lounge, or watching a movie in the lounge…

So moral of the story is don’t worry about the “partying atmosphere” of MIT during CPW. Their are lots of other ways to have fun and relax here. It’s all a question of personal choice.
