MITChris, how should dual citizenship and bilingualism be noted? Especially for those applicants who have significant ties (culturally and linguistically) to both countries? There is only the option to have U.S. American OR another citizenship, but not U.S. American AND another citizenship.

How it happened that the one question I loved the most from last year’s didn’t make it into this year’s… I have no idea. sighs
Can I ‘check’ creativity as the trait and give you my story about it? :D

I have a few questions - some were in another thread I made but weren’t completely answered.
-Is there a specific essay type I need to write the essays in? For example, can I add a dash of narrative/story, or perhaps make one completely so?
-For 12th grade ECs - is it possible to put them in the application and write near them (planned for 12th grade)? Or should I wait until the mid-year report to include these (if that’s possible)?
-This isn’t a question about the application per se, but it’s related. Will FA considerations note siblings studying for a Master’s degree - with parents pitching in on the tuition (most of it)? The sibling I’m speaking of won’t start the master’s til I start MIT, however, as opposed to starting this year. Does that make a difference?
-My school has 2 semesters, each with 2 “quarters”, totaling the following: 4 quarters, mid-years, and finals - in ths school year. First quarter results are out around Christmas. Second quarter + mid-years results are out late February. Exactly which category do I qualify for for the mid-year report?
Note: I have read the site’s mid-year report guidelines, but as the report is supposed to be filled out by January and my second quarter and mid-year results [which are out simultaneously] are out in February, I don’t see how I can do that.
Thanks! :)

ooh cool change.
My creativity essay was easily my worst essay. I just couldn’t figure out how to make my idea work out in words.

@Jimmy797 - as long as you address the question in some format, I think any type of essay is fine, including narrative.

I somehow already have an MIT account. I honestly can’t remember why I have it.

But anyway, I have a dumb username, will that be looked at by adcoms? It’s actually pretty bad.

Thanks resilient!
by the way, are there any optional ones?

@ripemango - I doubt a username will reflect negatively on you. If anything it reflects that you are willing to be yourself no matter what!

@curiosostudent: ur welcome

So your username doesn’t matter. Personally I want to change my username, but whatever… It’s no biggy.

@dignified -

Tell us about it in the essays.

@ripemango -

We don’t see your mymit username during adcom.

@resilient -

I was referring, in that case, to someone named ‘greedisgood’ with an interest in ibanking. That was what I meant about match.

Ok thanks!

Wow, erm - Shall I use my invisibility to fight crime, or for evil?

[/friends reference] :D

Edit: woops, missed Inkling’s post. Thanks for the reply :)

@resilient193:
Thank you!! :)

While is it true that MIT will almost certainly not change your assigned EC (barring death and a few odd exceptional circumstances), your assigned EC may well change. For example, in at least a couple of international regions, the Educational Council Regional Chair gets named as the contact for all of that regions applicants, and then parcels them out from there.

Also, even in a more “normal” region, things can happen. For example, I had one EC get desperately ill one year. None of his candidates heard from him (which is not all that unreasonable from his hospital bed), and we had to reassign all of them. But they all got interviews. Last year, as a regional chair, I had to reassign maybe 15 candidates for various reasons. Sometimes the EC’s schedules simply do not coincide with the students (I had one sent overseas on business for several weeks during prime interview season), sometimes I have an EC who falls sick in my region, or has other personal issues that requires them to reduce their interviewee count. Sometimes an EC just resigns.

In any case, reassignment certainly does not count against a student. The admissions office simply sees that an interview was conducted and they read the interview report. Which interviewer does the interview is often irrelevant.

That being said, in many regions, EC’s tend to specialise in schools. So for example, there might be one interviewer assigned to all applicants from ACME High School. They know ACME really, really well and knows exactly how to interpret any ACME accomplishments. If they fall ill, then any replacement interviewer will not be as familiar with ACME. But that is really the only negative consequence of an EC reassignment.

I want to know the answer to this question as well, if you can be so kind, Chris.

EDIT: Quoting didn’t work for me. I’m referring to this post: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1065408034-post10.html

^ Are there different sections for AP scores and classes? If so, I’d list your score, but I wouldn’t list it as a class.

^then by that statement, how would one recognize the accomplishment of a self-study?
I hope that the adcom doesn’t cursorily overlook the accomplishment.

If memory serves me correct from the 2009-2010 application, then you can write the test name and put “(Self-Study)” next to it. If not, that’s what the additional information is for :D

However, I still can’t access the application at the moment so don’t take my word for it.

For the interview, if our assigned EC doesn’t live nearby, do we have to make the trip all the way out for an interview?

Also, this may seem like a dumb question, but what does EC stand for?

^ Probably depends on how you set it up with the interviewer. I had mine at the EC’s house. Some people meet at a Starbucks, some go to a location halfway between the two places, etc.

EC == Educational Counselor

Hey MITChris,

Are additional resumes that supplement the 5 EC slots welcome? I think those 5 spaces and 40 word limit don’t do one of my activities justice.

No, you can’t be that good. 5 spaces and 40 words should be enough for everyone. Who the heck do you think you are?
