Why does it matter to you if they purge data or not? Do other/all schools do this by-the-by?

It matters because I applied last year as a junior due to personal circumstances and am now reapplying. however, there is a warning on the page to make a mymit account that making two accounts could result in issues for application. Thats why it matters to me that they purge it as soon as possible.

Thank you!

If someone were to retake a 2400 on the SAT and get a similar score again, would MIT think that that student was “test obsessed”?

I ask because I honestly enjoy the puzzles in the SAT and it’s a productive way to kill a saturday morning, but I’m worried schools will think I’m crazy.

^ Why talk about the schools? People will think you are nerd.

schools as in universities reading my application. I take the SAT at a local college.

If the colleges you’re applying to dont require all scores to be sent, don’t send them. Take them as many times as you like.

When is the official purge date for last year’s applicant data?

Is there a way to know if our transcripts and recommendations have been received? (such as email, a link on the MyMIT site)

-Thanks!

MIT doesn’t really overthink these things in general, but I don’t know anything specific.

You should probably call the admissions office and ask – perhaps they can get you the teacher forms or anything else you might need, even if the official purge isn’t for a bit.

There will be application component tracking up on MyMIT, probably in a few weeks.

If you enjoy the puzzles of the SAT, there are probably much better puzzles online.

I am planning on applying as transfer student to MIT. Right now I am a freshman at Stanford and I am planning to take a pretty heavy load of math and computer science courses this quarter, not the physics, chem or biology, etc. as mentioned on the MITadmission website. Does this affect my chance to be admitted?

Another question: When will the materials for transfer applicants be available? (it is no more EARLY September now).

I have asked and they are adamant about not giving anything until the purge

i was talking to my teacher today about MIT recommendations. and she told me that MIT is the nicest university she’s encountered because it’s actually understanding to how busy teachers are, as opposed to some other (elite) universities (i won’t name names here). but yeah! just had to put that out there. i myself have found mit admissions website incredibly personal and people were so nice when i visited there last week. so muchas gracias =]

ok onto my question…

i attend 2 high schools. i’m full-time at my local school, and part-time at another online high school. at that online school, i took 2 courses last year and only one this year. i know i’ll need a Secondary School Report from my local school, but do i need to get one from my online school?

This is an amazing thread.

Chris, I’m an Indian student, with a two year gap between my 11th and 12th grades and a gap year after 12th, which I gave this year. My grades have also gone down from the 90s in 10th and 11th to 60s in 12th. These are the result of a psychological (under-treatment) condition, which is ‘in-control’. I’ve also been home-schooled after 11th.

Is there ANY way MIT will consider my application if I excel in the SAT I and IIs, and given that my co-curriculars pre-11th have been good. Would an ‘honorable mention’ in NASA’s Space Settlement Contest be of any value? Or publications in literary journals?

Thanks!

sure, we will consider all applications.

Hi. I was wondering whether we had to submit Part 1 on MyMIT in order to be assigned an EC for the interview. It keeps returning the message that “It will take up to 20 minutes to assign you a EC” and I’ve waited 20 minutes and logged out and back in and I haven’t been assigned an EC yet. I’ve done this a number of times already and I’m wondering if the solution is to submit Part 1, as I haven’t done so already. Sorry if this has already been asked.

Yes, I believe you do.

Should we send copies of awards to admission office?

Thanks!

Hello,
I’m still not certain whether to apply or not; however, I’ve wanted to already give the teacher evaluation forms to my teachers, so that they have time to fill them. My question is, if I decide not to apply this year, can I save the recommendations and send them the following years? Or will a teacher’s recomendation written on a no-longer-valid form be looked down upon?
Also, I’m afraid I didn’t understand… the teacher is supposed to send both: the teacher evaluation form AND a letter of recommendation, right?

And the last question… (because, right now I can’t think of more) If I choose to take a few years’ break before applying (that is, finish high school, and not go directly to a college/university, but apply later, so that I have a year or more off), is it a matter of much importance what I was doing during that time, and why I chose to do so?
