When applying EA, do you need to send in first quarter grade reports? I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere here, but on the MIT website, I only see ‘midyear reports’ being required.

I’m applying as an international from Germany. Since the German education and grading system differs greatly from the American or British system, I would like to know to what extent my school counselor is supposed to explain the German system. Or is the admission office fairly well-informed regarding different edction systems? Any answers, this means if they’re helpful:), will be appreciated.

midyear reports.

we’re well-informed.

My math teacher’s recommendation was processed today (hooray). However, I’m a little concerned because my Humanities teacher sent in her rec letter about half a week before my math teacher did, and my Evaluation B hasn’t been processed yet. Is this normal/nothing to worry about?

normal. i’d check back towards the middle of next week.

I’m a part-time student at an online school and full time at my local school. Three weeks ago, I requested a transcript from my online school to be sent to MIT and gave the SSR forms to my counselor at my local school to fill out.

The SSR box on the application tracking page became inactive today, so something is processed, but I’m not too sure whether it’s the transcript (no counselor rec) from my online school or the SSR (w/ counselor rec) from my local school. Is there a way to check???

However, I’m guessing it’s the transcript from my online school that got processed. If that’s the case, would there be any problem with processing when my local school counselor submit the SSR via naviance later? Is there anything I need to do?

[Since the German education and grading system differs greatly from the American or British system…]

Don’t stress. The American and British systems are completely different from each other, and many of the European systems different again. For example a German Abitur and a Finnish Abitur are not really comparable. But MIT knows all of these pretty well. It is particularly important if MIT does not normally get many applications from the country, for the school to explain how the schooling works. For example, I would guess (and this is just a guess), that if you are applying from the Cape Verde Islands, your school might need to explain a bit more.

If applying early action, does ACT score from April need to be received at MIT by the November 1 deadline? In other words, is priority report required or is regular report ok.

I am a member of my school math and science team and we won a couple of national contests. Can I list team achievements as my scholastic distinctions?

Thanks!

Are the recommendation letters supposed to be received by November 1st, or just postmarked by then?

I plan on taking subject tests in November. Can I choose to send them after I see my scores? (Will they arrive in time?) Or do I have to list MIT as a recipient of my scores before they are released?

Thank you, Chris!

Everything will probably work out just fine in the wash, but you might want to give MIT a call so they’re aware they should expect two transcripts from you.

The scores don’t need to be received by November 1 – a regular report is fine if you send it before the deadline.

Absolutely. You should (succintly, because I know there’s not much space) note that they’re team distinctions.

Postmarked. (And every year, a few recommendation letters get lost somewhere between teachers and the postal service and MIT. And your teachers can fax in the letters after the deadline, no problems whatsoever.)

You should list MIT as a score recipient. You won’t get the November SAT scores on the internet until November 23, and even if you send them to MIT immediately after that, they will likely arrive too late, when MIT is already in selection committee.

You don’t have anything to lose by listing MIT as a score recipient when you take the test – if your scores are lower than scores you’ve achieved before, MIT will use the prior scores to evaluate you.

Does MIT look at the SAT out of 2400 or 1600 (without Writing)?

MIT has not used the writing scores for evaluation in the past, but I have not heard whether they will use them for evaluation or not this year.

Oh, okay. If you do find out will you kindly post it here? :)

Hello

Is it possible to make a change to the 1st part of the application after submitting it? I marked myself as Black or African American(including Africa or Caribbean) because I’m Berber, but I have found out that under the US govt laws I have to put Caucasian/White. I don’t want to be seen as lying (my skin isn’t black) even though I personally identify as an African (born and raised there, then immigrated here).

If indeed I cannot change that part of the app, would a letter to the admission’s office suffice?

Thanks

Hi, for Part 2 of the application, if I have listed a sport as one of my activities, but I also do it over the summer, should I also list it in Summer Activities as well, or would that be redundant?

On the MIT application under the activities section it asks for hours/week and weeks/per year. One of my activities does not make logical sense to include both. Can I just leave one of the spots blank? Note that this is not the summer activity section below which states it is okay to do so.

Is it correct that as long as I submit SAT scores through CB by Nov 1st they will be accepted for EA?

yes, you can leave them blank under those circumstances.

and yes, that is correct in re: scores.

Do all of our essays have to be strictly under the limit?
When I press “Validate Application”, it tells me that there are errors. My essays go over by a few words each.

If I press “Submit Part 2”, will I have an error?

Also, For the Courses taken/to be taken, what grade do i select if i have taken the course twice, but different levels? There is Calc AB and BC at my school, and I took one in 11th grade and I am currently taking the other. Also, I took Biology H as a freshman, and AP now (my school only offers bio, physics, and chem, the other classes are electives and not given honors/AP weighting.)

yes, they do.

you enter in the course twice and label it once as 11th Calculus AB and once as 12th Calculus BC.
