Right, the mentor asked if it could be emailed because the mentor does not have access to a fax machine until after November 1st.

You can email it to admissions@mit.edu

If the mentor doesn’t have access to the Supplemental Cover Sheet (that is personalized for each applicant) then the letter should include the student’s MIT Record ID #(if all required forms have been processed, you can click the link for the Supplemental Form and it will have the student’s Record ID # in the top right corner).

@crazymomster: why not? ._. I thought qualifying for nationals was like making AIME.

Will it hurt me if I list a scholastic distinction under the non-scholastic distinction section?
I already listed 5 scholastic distinctions (none of which are particularly amazing), but I have a sixth that I kinda want to list. Since I see a lot of posts about how it doesn’t really matter what goes under which section, I was wondering if it would be bad if I just stick this sixth one under non-scholastic distinctions (even though it clearly isn’t non-scholastic).

Should I be concerned that my tests scores haven’t been processed on MyMIT? I sent them almost two weeks ago and the deadline is tomorrow…I am assuming it’s fine if they are processed after November 1st for early action?

Interview not processed.
I had my interview a couple weeks back. After submitting part one I looked at the check off list and saw that the interview is grayed out and there is no check by it. Should I e-mail my E.C?

Yes, absolutely.

If it’s not possible to fax, IIRC it is possible to email. I would call MIT to confirm (and to confirm which address to send it to – admissions at MIT dot edu gets a lot of mail this time of year, and you wouldn’t want it to be lost in the shuffle).

Nope.

No, you shouldn’t be concerned. The testing agencies deliver test scores electronically to MIT one or two times a month, so even though you requested that the scores be sent two weeks ago, MIT may not have gotten a delivery recently. As long as you have already requested that the scores be sent, you’ll be fine for EA.

Looks like the system thinks your interview was waived, perhaps? It should get sorted out when your EC submits his report, but you can certainly email him to make sure nothing is up.

If our recommendation letters were submitted via fax, how long can we expect to wait before the MyMIT Application Tracking is updated?

My School goes by a semester system. Should I post my quarter (progress report) grades on mymit part II? I only got my quarter grades a few days ago

@tomdead… that first exam for the USNCO is extremely easy. You really don’t want to make up some award you didn’t receive. You should only list it if you received some sort of recognition (honors or high honors).

Did you even qualify to take the full 3 hour/ lab exam?

yes. I took the full 3 hour exam, but that’s as far as i got though =(

@amelia - read mollie’s post to all EA applicants… in short, it says “don’t panic”. Be patient. As long as you have your stuff in, you are fine.

For teacher recommendations, I just read in a blog post that they need to be printed on official school letterhead or they will not be accepted. I hadn’t seen this anywhere before (not mentioned on the Application Forms page of MyMIT), so my teachers didn’t do this. I’m fairly certain that when the guidance office sent the letters, they stamped an official school seal over the back of the envelope, but I’m not sure if that is good enough for Admissions to accept the letters. Now I’m not sure if I should be concerned that the letters have not been processed yet. Should I ask my teachers to send them again on school letterhead, or am I just worrying too much? Thanks

1 teacher who wrote my recommendation didn’t send it on letter head because he’s in a different school district now and they don’t have letter head.

That evaluation was processed, took a week and a half from when I mailed it (probably reached them in 1-2 days because I live in a bordering state).

I took the AMC12, but received a pretty bad score (even though it was good within my school)

Should I not mention my score? Will it hurt my application?

Ok so I already applied Early Action. All of my info and materials have been processed already but I have a possible problem with recommendations. I accidentally sent an extra recommendation from a science teacher. So, assuming MIT received all three, they now have one recommendation from a math teacher w/ the evaluation sheet, one recommendation from a humanities teacher w/ the evaluation sheet, and that extra rec from a science teacher. Because I saw on MyMIT that my recs were already processed, I am worried that they may have processed the extra rec instead of the one with the evaluation.

So my question is: Should I contact the admissions department at MIT to make sure the correct rec was processed or do they ignore extra recs that don’t include evaluation sheets anyway?

I’m not sure what the latency is on the tracking update. When you fax material, it’s automatically converted to PDF and (I believe) matched to your application, but I don’t know what the process is for changing the status on the application tracker.

AFAIK, you just need to report the semester grades on the Mid-Year Report in January.

Don’t be concerned. It takes a while for MIT to process all the mail they’re receiving. The school seal should be fine, and if there’s a serious problem, MIT will likely contact your school.

Not every applicant takes the AMC (or even knows what it is), so my advice has always been to report any AMC score you have. It’s up to you, though.

No, they’ll probably use all three recommendations for your evaluation – the two with evaluation sheets as the official recommendations, and the one without as a supplemental recommendation.

I know that for most EA schools don’t see senior grades. My HS runs on a quarter based system and insists on sending 1st quarter grades to colleges as well as the midyear. Will MIT heavily consider those 1st quarter senior grades? They should get sent in mid-november. My school’s policy is pretty bad for me because my 1st quarter grades are below my normal level (mostly a B in Calc due to one horrible test…ugh) So if I have an otherwise strong application will that B significantly negatively impact it, or should I just worry about it if I happen to be borderline?

So I was told that my second teacher recommendation has been sent (before the deadline, electronically) but it’s still not showing up on tracking. Is that normal, since it was submitted online? Should I be worried/at what point should I be worried?

Signed,
A somewhat paranoid MIT hopeful

is there any way to upload a resume when you apply to mit? also, can teachers submit recs online or do they have to be mailed?
