Just out of curiosity, from what 4 states did MIT Not take EA admits?

Btw, MITChris, you should do an AMA on reddit or 4chan, w/e you prefer. It would be super boss

Mollie,

I pasted them through a plaintext editor, such as the one at [Edit Pad - Online Text Editor](http://www.editpad.org/), but when I pasted them on the application, s were still visible.

If you go to the last page, there is a preview button in pdf format. It will allow you to see what your essay looks like and whether it was chopped.

@FourChan -

I’ve thought about it, and decided against it. But I’ll let you know if I change my mind.

I know you can see it in a PDF format, but it omits all of the special characters I have placed, such as a dash or a quotation mark - even after running it through a plaintext editor. Wherever there was a question mark inside a diamond, there would just be blank space on the PDF format.

just backspace and type it in the box, Shoota.

So, I got my TOEFL results today. Any idea how long it should be before it gets updated on my MyMIT account?

I got 108, is that a good enough score? Or should I try to retake?

Also, I will be faxing the evaluations and the secondary school report tomorrow. Any idea how long it should take before it shows up on the account? I just want to be sure it is received before 31st.

Thanks!

ooh yes what 4 states didn’t make the EA admit group?

Another question-

If one is deferred does that imply he has the academic credentials to perhaps, succeed at MIT? I ask while wondering if I should register for the January SAT?

Do I personally want to take the test? No.
I’m sick of spending money towards CB services.

@catchmoresun -

Not sure but I think there were some states that didn’t send us any applicants early…

@skepticidal -

Then don’t take the test.

Chris, can you answer my questions above?

@skepticidal

I dont mean to impose but I personally would not recommend taking the SAT again. Unless you think that you can jump 200+ points by January, it would be a waste of money. Having a slightly higher SAT score isnt going to help your MIT application if they deferred you for some other reason (etc not having enough personality or bad essays or whatever). Do you really want to sit through another 4 hours of testing and spend $50 or whatever to do the same or slightly better? Also, once you hit a certain bar, your SAT score doesnt really matter that much so theres no point in bothering. Just my opinion…

@RohitSharma - Your TOEFL is fine. The minimum is 90, and they generally want 100+. As for the materials, they’re getting lots of mail this time of year. If you don’t see it updated in two weeks, give them a call.

@skepticidal - If you’re deferred, it means your competitive with RA. If you’re competitive, your scores are fine. I wouldn’t retry the SAT over deferral.

Hi,

I would like to ask about additional recommendations. On the MIT cover sheet, it is mentioned that recommendations should be written on official school letterhead. My research mentor is not my school teacher, so he passed me one without such a letterhead. May I know if MIT will accept this letter? If not, may I know if I should ask for a new letter, and if that is the case, what should he put as the letterhead?

^^ I asked this question above and they said it would be okay…

Hi everyone. I want to submit a music supplement, but the problem is that I don’t currently have a teacher that can write me a letter of recommendation. Is it possible for me to submit a supplement without having to send a letter of recommendation?

Also, assuming that I don’t need a supplement, is it possible for me to create a website to host my musical compositions (in mp3 and a pdf of the score) and post the link under the additional information box?

Thanks! And happy holidays everyone!

Hello! I had a question about the evaluations. I’m an A’Level student, and I had to change school after my O’Level. I last studied English at the school from which I gave my O’Level. So for Evaluation B, can I give it to my old school’s English teacher, with the old school’s letterhead?
Since my school doesn’t have a counselor, and it’s a huge school so my principal doesn’t have all our records, I assigned my high school class teacher as my counselor. Is that okay?
Is the school profile necessary? My school doesn’t really have one :(

MITChris, I’ve got a question about the Optional Section of the application. The Admissions Office has said online that rather than a full research paper they would like to know how the research experience affected you, your results, etc. so I wrote an essay and a layperson’s summary describing my research as well as it’s impact on me. Problem is, the online system seems to accept up to 600 words, while both of those pieces combined exceed 1200…

Should I send you the documents hard copy or by fax?

Thanks - and Merry Christmas!

^ You should follow the word limit.
