Hmmm (sigh), that would mean that I need to cut more than half of that material, which I think might take too much away. Would faxing the documents in be unadvised? Or perhaps submitting the layperson’s summary (around 300 words) then faxing the context essay?

Hi all,

My December SAT results are not out yet. Given that it’s currently the holiday season, I think my results may be out on 27th, 28th or even 29th December. That means I will send my score late. May I know when is the latest I need to send my scores by?

Hi everyone, I have a quick question. Do school awards like outstanding achievement in Math, Reading and Harvard Book Award carry any weight whatsoever? My school is known for being competitive, and my class especially because many are harvard and columbia hopefuls so each award comes with a lot of effort and hard work.

I applied to transfer to MIT for Frebruary 2012, but I haven’t heard back yet. The transfer admissions website says that decisions come out in mid-December, but it know it sometimes takes a little longer. Should I have heard back already?

I’m not sure about whether it’s okay to send in a music supplement without a teacher rec, but if you don’t have a teacher who’s recently taught you music, my guess is that it shouldn’t be a problem. I sent in a music supplement and admissions seemed pretty chill about it.

As for creating a website, go for it! I did it and it seemed like the most straightforward way to show all my work and my resume/awards.

Hi,

I was wondering, if microsoft word says that I am over the word limits, but the MIT server says otherwise (no error message popped up), do I trust MIT or do I trust microsoft word?

Thank you very much!

Hi,

Sorry for the double-post. I have another question. What is the difference between EECS and CSAIL? For the Department essay, can I talk about CSAIL?

Have the scores sent as soon as you can.

Of course – school-level awards are useful and can help your case.

Maybe you should post in the transfer admissions thread on this board – I know some people have heard back already.

When you preview the application, do the full essays show up?

CSAIL is a laboratory within the EECS department.

I wanted to ask do the letters written by anyone be completely on school letterhead ???

Hi molliebatmit,

Thank you for answering my question. Yes, my full essay does show up when I preview the document.

Regarding the department, does that mean I can focus my essay on CSAIL instead of EECS? That’s what I’m most interested in =D

Are school documents (transript, recs, etc) from overseas applicants usually faxed or snail-mailed?

If they don’t get through by traditional mail, is MIT going to look down on it if they’re faxed in after the deadline?

Thank you

We strongly, STRONGLY prefer faxed documents at all times.

I am also over the word limit on the additional information. I want to send 2 abstracts and executive summaries. I heard the admissions office doesn’t want papers, is that true? And does MIT want a context essay?

How long should the abstracts/executive summaries be?

I wanted to go to MIT but when I was nearly done w/ my app, my computer crashed and I lost all my short response essays.

I am a great student, 4.0 UW, 4.7 W, but only 3 APs in chem, cal, and US hist.

The main thing im worried about is/are my test scores.

780 M (forgot to square a grid in answer)

580 CR

ACT:

31 E
35 M
27 R
28 S

With these scores my chances are not looking very likely.

I also have GREAT ECs (sci Olympiad: 4 state medals, Student Gov, etc.) And over 1,500 comm service hours.

I am a Caucasian male from a good pubic school.

I want to major in math or chem eng

Should I bother reapplying?

What are my chances. Please be completely honest.

Thanks so much!

I am also a NMSF and probable finalist and I tutor math outside of school.

@nocturnalduck: Thanks!

Okay. So my guidance counselor made a separate recommendation for MIT, because he knows it’s my first choice (true story).
Thing is, the MIT recommendation is concise, but it has missed out a lot of my main activities. The other recommendation is bulky but it mentions most of my activities.
I’m not sure as to which one I should send to MIT. I know that consision is good, but what if it costs me that depth? Any suggestions?

My two teacher recommenders used Naviance for the letters of recommendation. I used the same teachers for the common app, and I can see that they submitted their letters on the common app. However, on MyMIT it shows that only the Evaluation B has been submitted. Is it possible that one of my teachers submitted the wrong form and my other teacher cannot submit his evaluation? If this occurred, what should I do?

Hi!

I have a question about the MIT essays. The first two prompts are <100 words, and a quote from an MIT blog says: “the “Pleasure” and the “Department” prompts are not really “essays,” but short answers, so they can be easily answered.”

Does this mean that you are supposed to just write a sentence or two describing your answer, or actually write a 100 word essay?

Thanks!
