Yes, you can be. You can list as many or as few of your scores as you wish.

Hey guys, does anyone know if its worth it to say that you attended competitions that you have to qualify for, even if you didn’t necessarily win? (I’m thinking Math Prize for Girls, in particular.) Also, where on the application would you put these things?

I plan to apply to MIT EA, but want to be 100% sure of my application before I submit it. Will it be a problem if my evaluators send in their forms before Nov. 1 and they are designated EA, but I end up applying RD instead?

mojo377 - I’d absolutely put it down.

collegec123 - As long as you’ve submitted your Part 1 (biographical info, should be quick to fill out) before sending out the recs, you’re fine. Switching to RD is very easy for Admissions to do.

So should I submit Part 1 designated as EA now (Part 1 is all done except checking that box), send out evaluations, and then if I decide at the last minute not to do EA just contact admissions to switch over to RD? Thanks!

Do we need to send in part 1 before our recommendations and transcript are sent out?

collegec123 - Yes. If I recall correctly, you may decide to switch any time before November 1st (but I don’t work for Admissions - double check the date with them and make sure you don’t accidentally pass it).

yayitsme123 - Ideally, yes.

Tagging onto yayitsme123’s question: So if I’ve already sent my test scores and transcript, but haven’t yet submitted Part 1 (finalizing my cultural essay), should I get that done as soon as possible?

Not to contradict, but any piece of your application that’s received will create a folder for you, so you don’t need to submit your Part 1 first. It’s not a problem if other pieces of your application are received first.

Biology012, I emailed MIT and they told me that they are running the archive process to clear out old apps this week.

If my guidance counselor sends my transcript and it reaches MIT before I submit my application is that OK? Also, is it OK if my transcript reaches MIT a few days after Nov. 1?

Application materials should be postmarked November 1st - so you should send it by then. It doesn’t need to arrive by then.

The application asks “List Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or A-level or O-Level courses taken or under way.” I listed the 6 AP tests that I have already taken, but I plan to take 7 more in May of 2014. Should I list the ones I plan to take, or no?

Also, on the activities section, there are boxes to check off the grade levels in which the applicant participated in the activity. If I plan to participate in a spring sport (which starts March 1st 2014), can I still check off the 12th grade box? I have already been named captain for the 2014 season.

I would say these things are worth listing. They can be marked for what grade they were part of, so Admissions will know it’s planned rather than past.

Question on AP Physics C. My school offers a combine Physics C class, where the first half of the year is Mechanics, and the second half of the year is electric/magnetism. There are two AP tests though, so should I list these courses/AP exams separately or as one?

If I took 3 science subject tests (physics, chemistry, and biology M) as well as math II and sent all of my scores, will only math II and the highest science score be considered? I was just wondering because I sent everything, although my biology score was quite a bit lower than the others.

^ Yes, only your highest scores within a category will be considered.

Your choice.

Hi! Another question I have an activity that’s quite unique and requires an explanation. I talk about it in both the essay and the activity explanation part. The essay would not be super clear without the activity description part, so does the admissions officer read the activity description first? THanks!!

Our school sent the transcript, SSR, School Profile and GC recommendation today via Docufide but we cannot see them acknowledged on my.mit.edu. How long does it typically take for items like this to appear on my.mit. edu after transmittal? Thanks.
