One thing I think is embedded into American culture is a difference in the standard for evaluating the attractiveness of men and women. Though it is not really fair, men are judged to be attractive if they are smart, rich, powerful, ect., while women are usually judged based on physical attractiveness.

That has a lot less to do with American culture and more to do with the seperate niches that male and female humans have evolved to fill; namely, a man needs to have a lot less invested in a female than vice versa in order to spread his genes. Read books by Stephen Pinker.

And for the people criticizing this conversation, no one said they were actually basing their college choice on this issue. Moreover, it is extremely personally important to know what one's romantic life will be like in their college years, so don't call people sexist or judge them just for exploring the issue.

haha! I actually registered for this website, just so I can join the convo!

By the way for those who think that It is not important weather a girl is attractive, they are very wrong! and yes, i do mean physical attractiveness. This is human nature and everyb guy/girl would rather be with an attractive guy/girl then an un-attractive guy/girl.

Also a lot of people who get married in the end, usually find their mates in college, so of course these things are going to matter. We should not over think it though, because there will always be "hot" or "ugly" people at any college, though they ratio does change from college to college based on a general standard.

Therefore I believe that the guy that asked the question has the full right to ask it, and I also believe it is an important question!

But, about the feternity thing, can someone explain that for me?

MIT girls are really hot if you think glasses, unkempt hair, and an obsession with math/science are all sexy.

However, for normal guys.... no.

I personally think that beauty and brains don't always go together. Most of the really hot girls I'm partying with in high school are not getting into top colleges because they don't have the test scores to get in.

Oh my God I'm already sweating....

LOL aw guys are so shallow ;P

There will be attractive girls/guys/whatever turns you on anywhere you go, I can guarantee it. First, you are teenagers, and if you don't get attracted to a wide range of girls/guys/whatevers at the drop of a hat, there may be something wrong with your wiring. Second, you will have lots in common with the girls/guys/whatevers at your college of choice, and lots of opportunities to get to know them, and that tends to make people attractive. Third, lots of them will have two key components of attractiveness: availability and interest in you. Finally, in case all of the other factors don't quite do the trick, there will be beer wherever you are, and that tends to eliminate any minor shortfalls on the other factors.

simmons to bed, wellesley to wed, and mit to talk to...

no seriously, there are diamonds in the rough here at MIT, but you really won't have an issue finding girls you're into, given the ridiculous population of girls within a 5 mile radius of your frat or dorm. it's easier for girls from the other schools to get to you if you live in boston in a frat, but is definitely not a requirement. bu and wellesley girls are everywhere. if you want to see good looking girls, go take a walk around bc's campus and go to a mod party. i highly recommend it.

streetlight haha... MIT is like the ultimate school. Amazing academics and an amazing social life. What more can I hope for? .............oh yea maybe a higher acceptance rate

Merry Christmas everyone!

It just continues to amaze me that people seem to completely forget about the number of MIT girls who regularly read and post on this forum, who don't necessarily appreciate being called ugly all the time.

That's all.

is grumpy

Justice of CC: Ugly until proven not.

;-P j/k

haha WAHHH I WANNA GO TO MIT lol i dont care about the ugly guys ;]

No, most MIT girls are not good looking, but this is a non-issue.
1) You'll grow up and realize interesting/successful people are more fun to party with than hot girls
2) You'll meet more hot girls (BU/Simmons/Wellesley/BoCo/Berklee/Northeastern) than you would at any other college of MIT's caliber

People get more attractive the better you know them.

drools

:P

the MIT girls that I know are all quite pretty
..but none of them are interested in me =P (gee i wonder why)

most MIT guys are definitely not hawt (although there are a few of those and they're really nice ;P ) but rather cute sweet nerds if you're looking for that

It's weird because I have been hit on by ridiculously hot girls and told that I was the hottest Indian guy they have ever seen. It really shocks them when they find out more about me and figure out my obsession with science and my "ridiculous" grades (according to them). They actually find me being smart as a plus to my physical appearance. For this reason I have no other choice but to believe that there are hot girls at MIT because they are ALL smart and that is a HUGE positive to me. I also truly believe, that out of all of the other guys in the applicant pool, I have had THE MOST experience with girls, therefore I MIGHT have a little more insight on this topic. (But then again, What do I know? There may be some ridiculous kid at MIT that can get any girl he wants! :-D)

P.S. - Even if there are NO hot girls at MIT (which I highly doubt), the school is right across the river from Boston, and it has a ridiculous amount of universities around it!

^^ arrogant much. lol.
but seriously, I really think you're going to find someone attractive, whether it be the brains or the beauty, and if lucky, both.

vhiremath: "hottest Indian guy they have ever seen"? seriously? so many ways to mock you with this, so little time.

vhiremath: You sure do love using the word ridiculously, that's for sure haha
