So in all seriousness, how good is the MIT dating scene?

Some may think I'm being shallow here or insensitive, but this is an important consideration when you're planning on spending 4 years at a place. When I visited MIT none of the girls were my type. I don't want to say "ugly", but maybe I should. I went to a Sigma Nu party and the girls there were just so dense, uninteresting and not my type. Also if xkcd is any indication of the girls at MIT (which it probably is) they are all incurable nerds who will screw with my computer.

This contrasts with my experience of visiting Caltech over the summer. The girls there were hot and interesting. I would have thought it'd be the other way around! ***?

Anyone have experience at MIT girls? I'd prefer MIT students (I know who you are) not respond because they are biased.

if you're worrying about dating when there's a whole metropolitan city right next to campus, you probably have no game anyway so it shouldn't matter how hot the girls are.

I'm an MIT alum (and a girl to boot), so you are free to assume bias, but my husband certainly wasn't unhappy with the selection of MIT females insofar as he married one. ;)

My usual line is that no matter who you are or how good you look, there will be somebody at MIT who will be way, way out of your league. Thinking back over many of the MIT females who were on the cheerleading squad with me over the years, I think I can pretty objectively say that many of them were very beautiful.

Anyway, how do you know the girls at the Sigma Nu party were MIT girls? A lot of the girls at any MIT frat party come from Simmons, Wellesley, BU, etc., so take it up with them.

Good call.

Look, you have to be very smart to succeed at MIT, so if you are going to reject one of the finest universities in the world because a handful of anonymous girls at at frat party were not to your liking, then you may have neither the brain power nor the common sense to do the job.

Way to break out the stereotypes, but I can assure you that you can find females of both ends of the nerd spectrum here, from the course 6'ers who enjoy tearing apart old PCs to the course 17s who like nothing more than a decent, eloquent debate.

What a flawed way to gather information - if you have no primary sources, where is the basis for accuracy? I understand that bias will naturally happen, but to reject completely the opinions of the set of students from the college in question is a bit restricting.

Anyways, trolls aren't worth worrying too much about - I assure you all that there are nice-looking girls of every variety possible here, and if you look hard enough then I'm sure someone that fits your liking will pop up. It's not like all MIT gals are part of the same mold, right? ;)

Mollie beat me too it, but yeah, a large number of girls at fraternity parties go to other schools. And out of my fraternity brothers who have a steady girlfriend, all of them are dating MIT girls.

I don't think this is shallow at all. Especially if it is simply because you do not find them interesting. MIT is definitely my top choice, followed by CalTech :-)

My advice, if you do get into MIT, is to march your butt over to Boston and the tons of other colleges and talk to those girls. Who cares? Seriously MIT is RIGHT NEXT TO BOSTON! SO MANY GIRLS! Believe me, I know. Just go talk to random girls and get game son!

About the bias, i dont think MIT guys would be biased because they have no reason to be. They wouldn't care if you chose MIT or not, there are thousands of others in line. But yea there's so many other colleges around and I'm sure a chick would be impressed if you told her you went to MIT.

gah. I can't memorize numbers. Why must the departments be referred to by number instead of name. So annoying.

I can't imagine why MIT students would be on here if they weren't trying to pump up their school. I mean other than that, why would college students spend any time on this forum? I've heard rumors that admissions departments astroturf these forums. Wonder if it's true...

I'm not a troll. I have another account that I use more frequently, but I was afraid people would react like you did and crucify me so I posted under this account. And I'm glad I did...

If you can't memorize numbers, and don't want to deal with this aspect of the culture, you probably might want to think twice about applying to MIT.

How would that even be possible? Admissions officers on CC are identified by the "College Rep" tag under their usernames in posts.

The rest of us are just real people. I can't speak for all of the current students and alums who post, but I do it because I like helping people find the right school for them.

Guys,
no need to get all huffed up over what llortamai asked
is MIT so focused on studies that a guy can no longer inquire about hot girls without being tagged as lowly and crude? No matter how great MIT is, let's not scoff at natural human instinct.
