MIT interview guide and discussion

Well from what I saw with my interviewer, he just summarized everything I said and wrote it down. No checkboxes or lists or anything

Right. My interviewer was just transcribing everything I said onto his notepad. Came out to about 5 pages of notes.

^Sounds about right for me too, haha

Are you applying EA? Just out of curiosity.

They write a report to the admissions office. I’m not sure if there are any numerical scales involved.

Also, my EC called my cell today to let me know that he finished writing his report to MIT and to remind me of what a wonderful young man I am.

It was pretty nice of him to do that. :)

Is it acceptable to take a laptop along and show the interviewer some software stuff I’ve worked on (computer games) and a video of me playing the drums? Not for a technical demonstration, but I feel this might help me create a more complete picture of “what I do”.

I’m still trying to set mine up - My MyMIT account only lists an email, and I am awaiting a response. It’s been almost a week. How long should I wait before I contact MIT to ask for help?

@nikki93 - Seems fine to me :)

@KiwiKid - Trying to set your interview up? You could give Admissions a call, though I wouldn’t be too panicky. This isn’t an instantaneous process :)

@NewAccount: Yep, I’m applying EA

My interview was absolutely AMAZING!!!

We had a talk around 2 hours.A great conversation about many things!He was amazed and he told me how excellent person I am!

Well I have the rest of application though. It was an amazing experience:D :D

Good luck to all of you!:smiley:
My best wishes!

Do you guys recommend doing an interview for a less important school first?

@Jobbin I believe that applying in a less important school is not trivial. Different schools ask different things. Each one of those schools seeks for something different.

Just relax and be yourself either is an interview for MIT or for other school :)

Good luck!

hey I had my interview today and I think it went great it lasted for an hour and a half but my EC had to go. This guide helped a lot and it was a good way to prepare!

I have a question though… I realized I forgot to mention a couple of somewhat important/unique things about myself and wanted to know if it would be bad to send them in an email. I was thinking I could say thank you, etc. and then at the bottom explain that I forgot and then I could even send another formal thank you in the mail. Or is that just come off as tacky/annoying?

Thanks!

Oh, if it’s been a week definitely send a followup email. And do it before contacting admissions directly! It’s easy to just forget to respond to someone. And yeah there are numerical scales but more importantly is a statement submitted to the admissions department.

Luluuuuuuuuuuu

How are you doing? I miss you!

Mollie! Can’t believe you’re still active here. GUESS WHY I’M BACK?? hehehe

Chris and I were just talking about you the other day, we felt like there was a mollie-shaped hole in our lives. he sent me a link to your thing on the discovery channel. Sweet deal, man! You know he went to Colorado.

Well, I mean, lord only knows why you would want to join me in this indentured servitude known as grad school – I’m writing a grant right now, and I’m not going to tell you how many hours I’ve worked in the last week, because you wouldn’t believe it (and I sort of don’t want to calculate, because I might not believe it). Things like CC and knitting keep me sort of sane.

I’m not cheering this year, because I messed up my shoulder during camp last March, and I finally had to acknowledge that I’m too old for this. I miss it, though.

Let me know if you’re going to be in Boston, so we can go get tea again.

I think I will have freelance writing to keep me sane. There’s music, and I’ll probably get back into ceramics, too. So here goes :)

Any correlation between length of interview and how good it is?
