MIT Rejection phonecall ?!

Some1 called me early this morning (about 5AM) to say

“sorry, this is the official rejection to MIT, you can call the office to find out why you were rejected”.

the phone number he called from is withheld (can’t call back), it was 5AM in MA when he called, he chose my cell instead of my home phone, and decisions aren’t due for a few weeks… it’s just a prank call?

It's probably just a prank call. I can't really see a school like that calling you at 5AM (to a cell phone) about a rejection, let alone giving you a decision over the phone.

definitely a prank call

Definitely a prank- and probably one of your friends (albeit, not a very good one) just messing with you. It's got to be someone who had your cell phone number AND knew that you were applying to MIT. Although, I don't see why anyone would choose to be up at 5 am.

Rest assured, there's no way it was from MIT.

The number withheld...seems rather curious to me.

That's really quite low.

Of course, it's a prank call.

I think you can put a code in (*6 something) before making a call - this will block identification of who is calling.

that's a little rude...

Clever prank call.

They should have tried harder to be convincing.

Considering we haven't even finished selecting the class yet, I had to really laugh at this one (although I'm sure it was distressing and I'm sorry you had to go through it).

But no worries, it certainly wasn't us.

"I think you can put a code in (*6 something) before making a call - this will block identification of who is calling."

*67

I don't know why I know that ;)

benjones - nice of you to post in order to reassure this student. Not too many college reps identify themselvs as such, so I'm sure davidn08 appreciates it.

that's very mean. *** is that person. cold-hearted bitter person, probably jealous b/c you have better stats, lol.

Probably just messing with you, unless you gave MIT your cell phone number. lol

this one only works for numbers in the US, is it? hopeful

Whoa...this is the first time I've seen someone openly identified as a college rep on CC...that's crazy!

it`s great that college reps can help situations out once in a while.

note: a call can be blocked if you set it on your phone. oh, and if they do call, usually, it wouldn
t be the cell phone, unless that
s the only number you wrote on your application.
