Hello everyone!
At this point I’m trying to decide between MIT and Princeton for CompSci/BioE. The previews have been great but I realize that I like both schools a lot. For different reasons — I love MIT’s nerdiness, but also like Princeton’s diversity of majors.
Can anyone offer some opinions? I’m wondering how Princeton’s COS program compares to MIT’s. On the other hand, do people at MIT ALWAYS focus on just science, or are other discussions common?
Let me know what y’all think and thanks so much!
They will deny that. They will point out the other things that they talk about (and they are true). But, purely anecdotally, the big difference that I have seen is that the MITers that I know/have known eat / sleep / breathe their subject. If that’s you: great!
Assuming you went to admitted student days at both, my recommendation is to pick the one where you felt most at home. Sometimes the tell is in the small details- not one big ‘aha!’ moment, but several smaller things that left you feeling comfortable in the space. Go with that instead of trying to find logical or objective justifications for picking one superb option over another.
(but do come back & tell us what you decide!)
They’re both great. Decide on environment/vibe and cost.
Both schools are known for rigor among their peers: MIT per se, and Princeton due partly to the senior thesis being heaped on top of your regular class studies.
