lol, the thousands of RDers is better than a DDOS.....all we need to do is somehow get /. in on this and they'll have to extend the deadline. too bad i already EAed...

Crosses fingers for an extension or the backlog getting cleared up soon.

And you know everyone is frantically mashing the refresh button down...

Yep (10..)

has this happened before?

It happened to the EAer's this year I believe.

I'm trying to pay with credit card and each time I'm getting the busy message. I hope I'm not going to get charged each time I try to send it through... that would suck :</p>

This happened to the UC app but in that case the servers had been up and down for over a week (very lame). In this case tho...

CTRL + R

btw roman, if youve hit submit a bunch of times defiantly tell your parents to check their CC bill its not hard to fix but just need to make sure you dont double bill.

PS Im not a techie but ive seen this happen on other websites. Doesnt the busy message just mean that the website has reached its capped user connections? In which case itll come back down as the night goes on?

PSS Guys just start writing essays in word, elective descriptions in word and all that stuff. If you need the essay questions just ask. But instead of banging your head on your keyboard you can get something done in the meantime.

it happened last night, too, that the server was busy.

Usually when this happens to other websites it means that they've exceeded their host's bandwidth allotment... However, I think Ben said that during EA it was not bandwidth but load-balancing issues on their servers which was causing the problem. I think the servers (and the network medium) could actually handle that much traffic without a glitch. It's just the insanity of directing the traffic is where some packets might be lost and such... o_O

lol I probably don't make any sense...

If the server was busy last night it meant that those people thought that the deadline was yesterday, making those of us submitting later, but on the correct deadline smarter?

Roman: If you're submitting part 1 right now, are you sure it's even worth trying to apply? Seriously.

lol i was wondering why it was so busy last night.

Phoenix, why wouldn't it be worth applying? The deadline is not yet passed.

Phoenix: he could very well have been done/almost done with part 2. I didnt submit part I until ~4pm today, but I was done with part 2 already.

That's correct newUser... I waited until I was finished with Part 2 until I submitted Part 1. Apparently Phoenix was under the impression that I had not started Part 2.

BTW, I do hope I wasn't charged 5 x 65 = $325 !!!

I finished part 1 earlier today, then waited to do part 2.... thank god part 1 is out of the way but as far as part 2 goes.... MIT should be ashamed of their servers :p

errr... not cool at all

Oh, wait, I was thinking of my another application where you couldn't access part two until part one was in. Sorry man :)

And I don't think you'd be charged multiple times, just because each application is attached to your account. Even if you were MIT would reemburse you.

I spent today putting the final touches on my essay, but I was a bit hungover so I waited until now to submit, so I could go over everything carefully... I hope I havent screwed myself over by doing this.

Grr. Princeton's server's down and then MIT... I hate myself for being such a procrastinator

I am getting scared now...The server has been down for me for a good 10 mins now.
I just need to get on, copy in my essays and hit 'submit.'

criez
