Molecular Bio Undergrad / Bio/enviromental engineering graduate school

Hi

I am in my senior year at UCSD in molecular biology and will be applying to graduate school in the next few weeks. I've got good gre's 790Q, 510V and 5.5AW. My GPA isn't amazing, but I hope that at a 3.15ish I should make it though the initial cut and have my experience looked at. Experience wise I have 2 years and probably close to 1000 hours in an industry cell culture lab. I don't have any papers as they aren't focused on publishing, but my research lead to a few process changes that limit error and failures. These changes are pretty easy to quantify so they translate well onto my resume.

So here's my question:

Will I have a chance at being accepted to a mid range engineering PhD program?

I'm applying to bio/chem/enviro engineering programs because I really want to get into algae biofuel research and those departments seem to be where that kind of research is going on. The programs I've chosen claim to be "cross functional" so they should incorporate a fair bit of biology, but looking at their current graduate students, most seem to have engineering undergrads or a related field like material science.

What do you guys thing?
