You are paid about 110 a month as a 4 dig. Expenses are 0 unless you go buy extra food. The exception being books and school materials which you get a pay raise for on those months.

Your loan is paid off as you go. Cadet monthly pay is about 800 a month, so the deduction down to 110 is your loan being paid off.

really !

that much of a deduction... ~ $700... how much is the loan? how long does in take to pay it off?

thanks.

All USAFA cadets are paid $846 a month. During your first two years though, most of that money goes towards paying for things that you "bought" or were issued (uniforms are ridiculously expensive). Like hornet mentioned, four digs currently take home about $115 a month. Three degrees see about $220 per month. Two degrees and firsties receive the majority, if not all, of their monthly salary. I believe the total value of the loan is just over $10,000.

well at least it good that you don't have to pay for stuff (ie. std. food, dorms, etc.) like you do at a regular university...

i already have an "Armed Forces Bank" account... isn't there a branch at the USAFA? do most cadets do banking with them or just any bank..?

I believe all entering cadets must have an account with them.

There is an AFB branch on campus at Sijan hall on the Terrazo level as well as several ATMs around.

that's good.

thanks...
any other financial advice would be greatly appreciated.

The bank has branches in Wal-marts all over Colorado. The Appointment kit info must have told us that 20 times!

HA !

kinda humorous :D

i am glad I've had an AF Bank acc.
so I don't have to hassle with it during BCT, 4 deg. year, etc.

You need a bank account for your pay BEFORE you come in June. It's recommended that you get either an Armed Forces Bank or Air Academy Federal Credit Union account. A lot of people also have USAA accounts. I have AFB, and it works fine for me. I haven't heard anything bad about the other two though, so it's more a matter of personal opinion.

great !

thanks Falcons '11 !

greatly appreciated.

Honestly, there was so much paperwork that I think I let the banking situation slide by until inprocessing day. It's not a big deal if you wait till then... it's really easy to set up. And you'll just be standing there anyways. I say go with Armed Forces Bank. I personally think it's a lot more accessible, especailly as a 4 degree. But all you have to do is fill out one paper and the Academy will take care of the rest for you.

again, GREAT.

thanks, redhead89.

I personally prefer Armed Forces Bank, too.

the Air Force Academy really is a cool place !!!!??!!!

Would the appointees have any time to do it on the 2 days that they are at orientation? It's a monday and tuesday; the Armed Forces Bank should be open. Or, is all their time allocated?

I pretty sure you can set up an account at Orientation. I've got an AFB account as well and haven't had any problems at all.

Yeah, it is. :)

Instructions will also be in the packet that appointees receive.

It is very easy to set up a free checking account (with AFB, I would think the others are equally simple).

Both the AFB and the credit union had tables at orientation and they made it quite easy. Pay is direct deposit. Setting up the account early in our case also allowed us arrange a monthly deposit as we weren't convinced $115/mo was going to be enough (particularly for transportation costs the first year).

Both armed force bank and USAA will have booths at orientation to sign you up.

Is there an initial payment that a 4Dig has to pay on arrival?
