Anyone have any information, feedback, or opinions on Montana State University? Is it just for the outdoorsy type student?
What about Bozeman? Thank you

My niece is there and absolutely loves it. It helps to be outdoorsy, but you’ll find your niche even if you are not. I wouldn’t have said that my niece was a particularly outdoorsy-type of person, but it definitely grew on her out there. A lot of the orientation-type activities do revolve around hiking, canoeing, rafting, camping, etc. but I believe most of those are optional. She said the guide on her initial tour told the kids NOT to go there if you are looking for a big-time party school. A lot of the kids have a seasons pass to Bridger Bowl, because the free shuttle goes up there. There is actually shop on campus that will wax your skis. Either the town or the school has free shuttles that take students around the town and to places like Target. Niece lived on campus for two years, but now has an apartment off campus. There was a food court in both her dorms. She said the food was good (she gained the “Freshman 15” despite being pretty physically active). She believes her education has been top notch. MSU gives in-state tuition rates to all students who achieve certain ACT scores, so it is a relatively affordable school. The students Uber to the airport, but niece felt her bike was indispensable around campus.
@Groundwork2022 Do you have more info on the in-state tuition for “certain ACT scores”? I cannot find anything about this. The best we could get was the WUE scholarship. Currently this is my son’s first choice school but money may be the issue. Thanks.
Probably you already saw this:
@KezzyKezzy I couldn’t find it when Groundwork2022 mentioned it either. Here is the link for Achievement Awards and Distinction scholarships for OSS. HTH

We have a neighbor who picked Montana State right as he was finishing his junior year of HS. That far out MSU gave him an excellent merit award that made the cost similar to U of Colorado instate. The kid loves it there.

I don’t have specifics. I’m sorry. My niece retook the ACT in order to qualify (which she did), and she is a junior there now. I am not aware of a change in the program. It is worth an email to admissions.
Yes, my son loved it there when he visited (in the dead of winter). Even though we don’t get any money for “need” he was able to get the WUE scholarship. When we looked at the money, it was cheaper than going in-state to the UC system and on-campus housing is cheaper than all the other schools he considered. yes, there are travel expenses but there would be some cost with anywhere except for the state university near our house and we think it’ll help him a lot to go away.
