Monterey Institute of International Studies?

I'm a college freshman majoring in Russian and International Relations. I know it's a competitive field, and I want to be sure that I go to the right grad school. What is MIIS' reputation? I had never heard of them before, but from their website it seems that they are exclusively a school for International Relations. The website is miis.edu

Thank you!

bump… :(

@Dzheims‌ – I have a friend who attends MIIS for Translation and, as far as I know, that is what the school is known for. Yes, it is an IR school, but it focuses on international education and training and second language mastery (hence translation and other second language programs). However, it’s not a part of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) where I believe you can find much better graduate programs. One of the requirements to be an APSIA school is “significant autonomy within a major university” and MIIS is only affiliated with Middlebury College.

If you’re set on using Russian in your career of choice then MIIS might not be so bad, but its programs are geared towards translation, interpretation, education, etc, even though I’m sure it has great traditional IR programs. However, in my opinion, its location is not ideal for jobs in international relations.

@bk4972b‌ Thank you again for a helpful answer! You are posting on all of my threads :p
