More Choices--Beloit, Bowdoin, Colby, Carleton, Connecticut, Hamilton, and Haverford

cool about the music department. how are the practice facilities/music building?

and comments on residential life? I’m very interested in the school.
thanks!

The facilities right now are in a converted chapel. There are about 10-15 practice rooms. They were just donated a huge building downtown that they plan to convert into a performing arts center. It should be done with in the next 3-5 years (this is a guess, could be even sooner) or so.

As for life, nobody knows how to have fun like a beloit student. While there is a lot of partying on campus there are plenty of opportunities for those who choose not to. There are tons of clubs, activities, speakers and everything in between for student to do. Coming to rural Wisconsin may leave people wondering if they are going to be bored but it is anything but boring here. There is always something to do. And everyone is overly friendly and accepting.

and the weather? what’s the temperature range?
also what sorts of stores are nearby?

The weather is typical of the other schools on your list. Cold Winter, hot summer. There are shuttles to all your necessities (walmart, target, etc) and there is a Walgreens and CVS within a 5 min walk of campus. Lots of restaurants around also.

Just putting in two cents for Colby! It meets lots of your wish list, and is worth a good look. D is only a newbie, but definitely not preppy, and is having the time of her life. Also very into music (vocal), and is finding that it’s VERY strong, also into theater and finding LOTS of like-minded friends. And the outdoorsy part is clear–you’re in Maine, after all! And Colby has great study abroad–very flexible and open to facilitating what you want to do, as well as having their own programs. Overall impression of students–happy, bright kids who are into EVERYTHING, and enthusiastic about what they’re doing!
