More info about olin?

I feel that I know next to nothing about Olin, however, it seems like an interesting school. Does anybody have any experience with the school? Did you find that the small number of students affected you in any way? Is it unknown because of its size? Is it considered prestigious? Did you feel limited by the number of majors and options?

Thanks for any help!

I’d advise reading prior threads (including the one right before this, where I had some musings about both prestige and majors). Also, check out the Olin website, particularly the blogs that are on the right after you click the admissions tab.

In response to a couple of your other questions, I think Olin’s relative obscurity is due to its newness (it’s only been around since 2002) and its small number of alumni. As far as size, it’s different, but most people seem to feel that it’s different in a good way. As one student told my daughter when she visited, “Sure, it’s small. But the folks who are here are all the cool people you’d want to hang out with if you went someplace larger.”

As far as prestige, as mentioned on prior threads, Olin grads seem to get cool jobs and get into top grad programs. If that’s what you’re hoping prestige will bring, then you’re all set with Olin. If you want a lot of impressed nods when you tell non-tech people where you went to school, you may be better off elsewhere. For whatever it’s worth, I saw a list somewhere on the web of the 16 most selective schools in the country, and Olin was on it. Does that equate to prestige? That’s going to have to be your call.
