The number of perfect ACT scores for the Class of 2010 is more than twice the perfect scorers in the Class of 2006.Meanwhile the College Board saw a 25 percent increase in perfect SATs: 297 perfect scorers among 1.5 million students in 2009, compared to 238 among 1.4 million tests in 2006.</p>
<p>No one says the tests are easier. But ACT and SAT spokespeople theorize that more students are taking tougher, college-prep classes than in prior years.By some estimates, 2 million students a year spend $1 billion to $2.5 billion on test preparation classes, tutoring and test books.</p>
<p>Gabe Blanco, who scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT, started preparing the summer before the test, using a book, 10 or 11 practice tests and two weeks of test review classes. He said his greatest challenges were mastering the clock and watching out for the SAT's tricky questions.</p>
<p>"The first 700 points of any (SAT) section is knowledge," he said. "What you know and how you apply it. The other 100 points is concentration, making sure you don't make any little mistakes.</p>
