who's with me?

Yep. For me, MWF 8 am. It’d be nice if we had just one 8-9 am class and got the rest of the day off (for sleeping, of course).

i had 8am classes every day of the week for the fall and last spring. it sucked at first, but i got used to it. i would just get tired by 11 every night and be in bed by midnight.

but i really don’t like having alternating days of early/late because then i get really screwed up.

It’s soo cold in the morning!

I had a job in SF last semester which started at 9am. After a bit, I got used to waking up at 7am. Now, I no longer have the job and still wake up at 7am each morning–even weekends. Actually, this morning I woke up at 6am and had nothing to do but read until 2pm. Watching the sunrise is something I’m beginning to really enjoy.

Also, going to bed at 8pm while my housemates are pulling all-nighters is incredibly satisfying.

I hate waking up in the mornings. So miserable. Actually, it’s the fact that I have to sleep in a ****** bunk bed (the top one). What am I? 12 years old? Screw triples.

@ektaylor:

what time did you usually wake up before? cuz i’m a total night owl, but my bf thinks i won’t survive after i graduate if i don’t automatically wake up at 7am everyday. i get up early if i HAVE to but i’d really like to see if its even possible to do what you did (learn to get up early). any tips?

Yes. Get up early. lol It’s not being awake at 7 that’s hard. It’s rolling outta the bed, taking a look at the misery outside (and it really is pretty dark and bleak), and thinking, “damn. will it rain?” Bring your umbrella (which is a hassle and something I don’t have), slap on a few jackets for the wind and then come outta class at 930 and find that the damn sun is shining.

I actually like morning classes. I feel I get much more accomplished during the day when I have them.

Sadly, I have none this semester.

Around 9-10am.

Getting into a routine helps. I had a job last summer which began at 8am every day including most weekends, so I forced myself to change my conception of when is “normal” for me to wake up from 9-10am to 6:30-7am. My trusty 4-cup coffee maker helped immensely. Then by the end of the summer I decided that I was getting too dependent on caffeine, so I started ditching the coffee too. Now I’m completely coffee-free and wake up at 7-8am every day including weekends, usually a few minutes before my alarm goes off. I run 2-3 miles every other morning at 7am, which is a good way to shake that dreary early-morning feeling, and I schedule classes or work at 8am on days I don’t run to take advantage of the extra time “gained.”

This is coming from a person who regularly used to go to bed at 3-4am and wake up as late as possible, so it’s definitely doable to change from being a night owl to an annoying - to everyone else - morning person. It just takes a few lifestyle changes like going to sleep earlier on a consistent basis, as well as a conscious decision to look at things a bit differently (my roommate’s idea of a perfect schedule is no classes before 11am so he can sleep in). Within the past two years I’ve also trained myself to go from 8 hours of sleep per night to 7, and then to 6, but that’s more a function of needing the extra time to do reading/homework than anything else.

haha early classes

Don’t take them. It’s not too hard to move your schedule around if you plan ahead of time. This is especially true for upper-division classes which often don’t have to be taken in a specific sequence.

I have 8am class tomorrow!! ahhhh!!!

i plan to never have an 8 o clock ever. but usually classes screw me over.

Last semester I had no 8 AMs (10 AMs were my earliest). This semester i have Latin 102 at 8 am TuTh… I thought UD courses were supposed to be immune to 8 am…
