I recently received the Morrill scholarship and was invited to the distinction weekend. Does anyone know what I should expect? What happens? What kind of questions are asked?
Hi,
Did you receive the notification to general email or buckeye email?
Thanks.
@AbhekP Congratulations! Distinction Weekend is a great event.
Friday night there will be a dinner with all the candidates and their parents/guardians in the Union. Current Morrill Scholars will there to mingle with the candidates and answers any questions you may have about the program and/or OSU. You will quickly learn that current OSU students love OSU and love talking about it. The night includes dinner and short presentations by Administration and current Morrill Scholars. Attire is business casual.
Saturday is interview day! Once again, current Morrill Scholars will be there to host the event and answer any and all questions you may have. I think the interviews are 15-20 minutes long. It is a panel interview with 3 interviewers. Attire is business professional. Be prepared to talk about your experience and how you see that as a fit for the toward supporting the ODI mission.
@jjulesjenks Thanks so much for the reply! I just didn’t know what to expect. Do you have any more specifics on what types of questions they may ask? Thanks!
Congrats! How long ago did you apply and how did they send the notification?
Did anyone receive a generic welcome letter from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI)? I have a feeling that this is not a good sign as far as being considered for the scholarship. Thoughts?
General email
I applied Nov 1 and they sent it through email

when did you get the email?
@AbhekP You’re welcome.
I spoke with my daughter and she said that the first question was “Tell us about yourself” and from there it really turned into a conversation back and forth. She, admittedly, was nervous and started rambling but the skilled interviewers were able to get her to catch her breath and help her calm her nerves. She discussed the topic of her Morrill Essay and her intended major. One of the interviewer’s even gave her a contact name of someone that was connected with her intended major. She suggested going in with humbleness about your accomplishments and excitement for what you can offer OSU and vice versa.
Wanted to add that I really mangled that last sentence of my previous post, but I sure you got what I was trying to say
Best of luck and Congratulations, just getting invited to Distinction Weekend is an amazing honor!
I submitted my application mid-October and received my acceptance 12/13. Do you think it is too late to be considered? I am a Biomedical Engineering in-state student.
Anyone know if there is a Morrill open house for those not invited to the Distinction weekend?
