If you are a parent or an alum, have you received an invitation to hear Morton Schapiro speak about his "bold strategic vision for the future"of Northwestern in the Boston area? I'm just curious if anyone else is going as it is at Jonathan Kraft's house...and I am a die-hard Patriots fan.

I’ll be a freshman next year, but my dad is an NU alum and received the invitation. Both of us are big Pats fans, and my dad mentioned that I’ll be headed to NU next year, so they said I was invited as well. I feel like I’d be out of place as the only teenager, though…

Also, did Kraft go to NU? Any idea why it’s at his house?

Jonathan Kraft went to Williams College - that’s the Morty connection.

It doesn’t hurt that both schools bleed purple.

Kraft is a Columbia U and Harvard MBA grad. From an interview with Morty, in which he described himself as a sports fanatic:

In football, he “has nothing against” the Chicago Bears but swears allegiance to the New England Patriots, whose owners, the Kraft family, are close friends and “wonderful people” with whom the Schapiros often celebrate Jewish holidays.

Robert Kraft, that is.

Jonathan Kraft is a trustee of Williams (and generous alum) and was so while Morty was president of Williams. I have heard Morty talk (at both Williams and NU events) about now being a Pats fan and attending games with the Krafts. In any event sounds like a fun evening, Morty is terrific at this type of event.

You think it would make any sense to go as an incoming freshman? I don’t know how I feel about it.

Absolutely! It’s your school. I’m sure you will be even more enthusiastic about NU after hearing Morty speak.

You should go as an incoming student and ask a question. It shows ambition and that you can handle yourself well in a group of adults.

My daughter is an incoming freshman, and I’d like to see Kraft’s house, but we haven’t been invited (as far as I know).

Absolutely go! If you’re an incoming freshman, you’re absolutely part of the Wildcat family. Morty will love it. There’s nothing he doesn’t love more than enthusiasm among current students. He’s great, and easy to talk to. I have been very impressed with him on the few occasions that I have met him.

A master networker like him is just what NU needs.

Hell of a speaker! Wife and I herard him for the 1st time at son’s freshman move in LY… Outstanding. He made such a strong impact, we both wanted to sign up for classes…

@flyingfish18, you should definitely go! My daughter wants to fly home for it, but I’m not sure she will. We’ll talk to you :)

We are wondering if we will be the only not fabulously wealthy people there (a scientist and a teacher). I’m making my husband miss a day of a conference to go.

Again, I don’t know anything about the arrangements. I haven’t seen any invitation. Who received them?

I beg of you, though, wear purple. It will make Morty smile!

EnoughAlready - the NU community is very welcoming. Do not worry for an instant over “who you are.”
