I-banking and MBB consulting are coveted jobs at any top college. At Wharton undergrad, the buyside firms are the ones that the top students are gunning for. Here's a partial list of some of the most coveted firms at wharton.

blackstone
citadel
SAC Capital
Apollo private equity
Bain Capital
DE Shaw
AQR capital
Silver Lake
Fortress
Jane Street (it's a prop trading firm but extremely competitive)

Yes, at the top undergrad schools, not just W, the best students will be gunning for the hedge fund and private equity positions, but many will end up with the banking, trading and consulting positions - definitely not the worst 2nd place trophy, but there are some that manage to jump right into P/E and HFs straight out of u grad.

Although these opportunities are desirable, they are rare compared to banking ones at BB. The main advantage of going straight into buy-side firms such as DE Shaw, Bain Cap, Blackstone, etc. is that the hours are better, but you make just as much.
