Most Frustrating Thing about High School

The fact that I’m still in high school… enough said.

@NotTop8Percent‌

Um… what? Why would that be something that you hate?

@albert69‌

Dang, next thing you know, students will also have to chop down the trees to get the paper!

Everyone’s going to be all concerned about GPA, test scores, and class rank starting next year because ranks are released in 10th grade at my school. F*** class rank drama and kids who think they are capable of taking all honors and in addition, APUSH and AP Chem without any prior knowledge or course in chemistry. ^ as sophomores lol

lets all calm down…

I’m a bit fed up today.

I’ve got a friend in my Calc Class who knows all the material. In my algebra 2 class two years ago he bragged about how he would take Precal over the summer. However, he didn’t get the class and he was forced to take precal. He took AP Physics C that year too ( and got a 3 on the Mech and E/M parts… wurf? I think not…)

He’s a very self motivated learner, which I appreciate, BUT…of course, life can’t be nice, can’t it?

Basically he tries to validate his intelligence among the smartest kids in our school. He wants to be with the kids who have doubled up on math, taking tons of AP’s and are generally recognized as smart kids.

And so, in my Calc Class, here’s how it goes down. Randomly during class (he sits behind me) and asks the teacher something like
“when are we getting to power series” or
“what’s i^i” or
“do you know this method for doing this…” and it’s always clearly something that nobody has learned yet in class.

And he does this at the most obnoxious times, and makes sure everyone can hear him. Nobody says anything but the teacher who has to respond to his question, and such responses are along the lines of…

“That’s something you learn as a 3rd year math major in college…” or…
“Yeah, I don’t know, or…” etc.

Literally, he had a conversation with someone across the room and said “yeah, I read the calc book in 9th grade…”

He always turns his quizzes 10 minutes before everybody else finishes, and when I get a glimpse of his grade, it’s not even an A… like if you’re gonna be that guy who turns in his quiz first like you’re hot stuff and then you don’t get a good grade then what the f…

I’ve been this person’s friend for a while, but this behavior grinds my gears to incomprehensible proportions. Like, if you are going to show everyone else that you’re smarter than everyone else, then just leave. GTFO. Walk in to the Calc 3 Classroom if you want, I dare you. He did one time to ask the calc 3 teacher for a math honor society form, and LAUGHED when he saw some calc 3 stuff that he found easy on the overhead after class. Like…why, just why

Do these stories sound familiar to any of you? or am I just hella salty?

Those people that can’t take a hint and don’t understand that they’re annoying as poop.

When your teacher doesn’t curve and you’re .1 off from a B+. :frowning:

I dislike the bathrooms at mine… abhorrent conditions!!

LOL, @AtharvaLarva you just chronicled my day to day activities. That being said, I can completely emphasize with your getting pissed off. Hopefully he realizes that he is being annoying and at least tries to make it up to you. I mean, he probably gets a kick out of it (as I do) but bothering others is definitely not good. And I guess he should work to back up his statements at least? Faking it is never good. Nice story tho!

I’m so done with cheaters who lower the grades of people who actually do work. Half the people in my math class cheat, and the ones who don’t are suffering greatly, since there’s no partial credit and the teacher doesn’t curve if some of the class did well.

Cheaters!!! The top students in my school cheat in every class. They then say they will get into Harvard because of their 96+ GPA. It’s so bad, so bad. And then people who actually work, the talented students, are below these cheaters, at a lower class rank and GPA. I can’t believe it.

APES. We don’t do anything in that class, so I’m totally okay with just asking my mom to call me in and pretend that I have a “dentist appointment” so I can skip.

No, I don’t feel bad about it at all. I have a 97%, for goodness sakes…

At my school you can bring your own device so everything is online. There’s this guy in my bio who literally does nothing but watch YouTube videos. He has a 39 in the class! I guess it’s just aggravating when people just don’t care.

Irrational teachers

@nickxx‌ that’s kind of harsh…most outcasts are just shy and have a hard time making friends. I could see why they would complain if someone actually said no to them when they asked if they would be their partner because that’s really rude.

Arbitrary school rules.
Why can’t motivated students take geometry and algebra 2 at the same time. Having taken/currently taking both these classes I can confirm that the material has had little to no overlap and therefore the rule makes no sense.

Also, guidance counselors who don’t know what they are taking about. I asked 3 (3!) guidance counselors which AP Physics the school offered and NONE of them knew the answer.
They also tell everyone that they WILL get college credit for ALL AP and IB classes (as in at ANY college, not just the state university) as long as the get a score of 3+ on the AP test.

My school also double blocks AP Chem and AP Bio (only high school in the county to NOT offer the single period class). Which makes it almost impossible to take either class if you also are doing a Program Of Study (POS), like PLTW. Most of the students interested in AP Chem and AP Bio are also doing PLTW or a Biomedical POS which means most students who want to take the classes can’t. -_-

@Iamnotcreativ I took both algebra 2 and geometry at the same time, 8th grade year, so I agree. Rules are dumb.

Like I want to take AP Physics C next year, I love Physics and would be in calc, so there’s no reason I couldn’t. But noooo, physics C is only open to 11th and 12th graders and you have to take honors bio first. Honors bio? Why? I’m taking honors physics now, wouldn’t that be more helpful? Sigh.

My French class. It’s not honors, so apparently everything must be learned by rote memorization and endless repetition. I consistently finish in 10% of the time everyone else takes. And then I’m not allowed to do work from other classes, or read a book, or even read my French textbook. I simply have to sit in silence and stare into space…

The most frustrating thing is that people who might be more laid-back in high school always call the kids who are high achievers “nerdy” or “attention-seeking” or “show-offs”. Does if ever occur to you that perhaps, we just might enjoy the subject that we’re advancing in? Just because we’re all AP, H, or IB students doesn’t mean that we don’t have a life, or whatever else it is that you accuse us of doing, it just means that we compete either with others, or with ourselves.

And for those of you who don’t enjoy it when A+ kids complain about getting 98%s, it’s the same thing for us when a B kid complains about never getting A’s. Our standards our higher, and we seek to excel in most things we do. We know we can’t be perfect, but it sure as hell doesn’t hurt to try.

Also, when you turn in tests first, but get bad grades, that’s just stupid. But how does it matter to you? He’s the one that will be failing the class because of his attitude. If you turn in tests early, and get good grades, that just mean that you understand the concepts. It doesn’t automatically make you a show-off nerd.

@sternyc‌ but there is NO WAY ANY A+ kid should complain about getting a 98. If you’re an A student, then you shouldn’t complain about getting a 91 or something like that. It’s ridiculous and I want anyone who does that to just shut up.
