Most interesting 4-units for your FREE SPACE??

Hi everyone, I wanted to see if I can get suggestions and opinions for any fun, interesting, not too stressful 4-unit course I can fit into my 4-year course track. Besides that though, we can build a course list in this thread that lists worthwhile classes to take for USC students outside of their general scope of classes.

They can be finance classes (FBE), business classes (BUAD), GEs, Sociology, or whatever.

Any suggestions from the upperclassmen who have been there and done that? Also, which random 4 unit courses would they do again and which ones did they regret taking?

I've heard that the Intro to Film Class with Casper is great, but difficult so that's a shakey class to put into this "interesting, stress-free 4 unit" category

Fire away!

the most popular 4 unit classes are film and tv symposium. the class consists of you watching new movies or tv series before they air depending on which class you are taking. because so much of hollywood has gone through USC’s film school, you would be hard pressed to find a new movie without a USC grad as a exec producer or director, therefore they are more than willing to show their films before the release.

most people take 2 unit music instruction courses, myself included, such as piano or guitar.

my favorite 2 unit class by far was ballroom dancing with jesus fuentes, one of the dancers in dirty dancing. He is the funniest “professor” you will ever meet in any school.

also, lots of people take the various pe classes that are 1 unit each. Some of the more popular ones are tennis and yoga. I am in ping pong right now and its been great. I heard they are offering surfing next semester, but I will be graduating so if thats true, you guys should all take it.

if you have any more questions, ask in my thread “boreduscstudent…”

Hey Bored,

Do the TV & Film symposium classes fill up quickly? I’m a transfer student, so I wouldn’t even be admitted until June, and then I would have to register for classes after that. When do current students register? Would I be able to take one of these classes in the Fall semester if I can’t register until June or so?

There are a bunch of 2-unit Theatre electives (Improv, Costume Design, Solo Performance) that are a lot of fun.

Registration for classes is done by how many units you have. So freshmen coming in with no AP credits or college level coursework register dead last, while athletes and super-seniors with an insane number of classes done register first.

Hawk,

What about transfer students? We don’t hear until June 1st. Is all Fall registration complete by then?
