Most underrated school in New England?

It's no colder in Farmington than it is in Western Massachusetts or most other places in Northern New England. Someone looked up the average temperatures in all of the major LAC locations and posted it. <g></g>

hudsonvalley51- Salve Regina has the most fabulous campus setting in New England, IMO. Have you been there? Not very selective, but an incredible value to get to live in the heart of Newport for four years.

HUDSON - not sure about merit aid at St. Anslems or Salve Regina - but both well regarded in New England area. Salve Regine can be a bit intimidating because many students have funds to spend - in Newport - over looking the cliffs - by the mansions (actually some of the dorm space is in a couple of the mansions) - but a good education can be achieved at either school.

U of Maine has some great programs for OOS kids - they have a very good Honors program and lots of opportunities for their students.

Another school to check out would be Quinnnipiac in CT - just far enough outside the city limits to have a nice campus and great facilities - but close enough to have good social life as well.

NIGHTINGALE - does your gal have any special interests as far as possible major?? That may help

Does anyone know about St. Michael's in Vermont? It looks like another hidden gem.

1SOKKERMOM - St Mikes - excellent competitive school.

I seconded St. Mike's earlier today and my post never made it on here. I do agree it's an underrated gem. Middlebury is NOT underrated--it's a great school, but offers NO merit aid and p3t, it has been re-named--"Club Midd".

P3T - Roger Warren?? - do you mean Roger Williams? in Providence? - actually nice location - on the water :)

Club Midd? Is that because its become a party school? Elaborate, bethieVt!

St. Michaels in Vermont is near the University of Vermont. However, St. Michaels website says it costs $37,000 plus while UVM website says UVM costs $38,000 plus. So anyone going to UVM for the atmosphere OOS should consider St. Michaels!

There is a HUGE difference between UVM and St Mikes - big U vs small private LAC - two completely different experiences - not just the academics. They may be close to each other - but 2 very different worlds :)

Isn't St. Michael's a Catholic college?

"D" applied to Wheaton, regular admission, so still waiting. She refused to apply to Mount Holyoke despite a great Biology Dept. and decent FA. Didn't want single sex, plus to close to home. Bard I will look into. U. Vermont lovely college town but stingy merit, she applied anyway. Chedva (Thanks)- Stonehill and St. Mike's are on the list. I guess we hit a lot of the sleepers in spite of ourselves. Visited Clark but did not like it.. who knows...

Club Midd is about how wonderful the facilities are, like you are on vacation.

And St. Mike's of course is very different from UVM. Both good schools. We have thousands of students here looking for their own thing. Different is good.

From the Op - Yes sorry.. she is looking to major in biology.. pre-med. Salve Regina in Newport RI... yes, she applied but SR's top merit scholarship, which she qualifies for only gives 10K. The remaining 30-35k is a tough nut to crack. U Maine Farmington is a gem. Considering it for my son, an average, but solid student still with two HS years to go. I was hoping to find a good private for "D" as her stats are really good.

NIGHT - check out this school - Endicott College - Endicott Campus Map - it is a very good school - one of those real hidden GEMs - as you would say - beautiful area - north of Boston along the coast - good academics as well.

Southern New Hampshire is up and coming.

Endicott looks really pretty; like a Salve Regina of Massachusetts! And tuition low.

We've gotten a lot of mail from Southern New Hampshire, apparently it had some less attractive name before and is now aggressively marketing itself. I think there were pictures of beautiful people in lab coats making pastries, which is much more tempting than pictures of beautiful people in lab coats staring at test tubes.

I like in the town Wheaton is in; it's definitelly a very, very good school and is very affordable. The campus is also extremely nice.

All my friends who went to Salva HATE it.

My friends at Nichols College love it, but it isn't the greatest school.

I have a friend at Quinnipiac who absolutely loves it, and my girlfriend wants to go there also. I hear all good stugg.

Any suggestions of schools w/ more diversity?

(D has stat similar to OP, but wouldn't be comfortable at college w/ only 1% black students.)
