Perhaps international students were notified in advance of US students, for some reason?
Congratulations you two! I’m an international student, but I haven’t heard back yet did you both apply RD? Should I be worried?
Thanks! Yes RD. I don’t think so… they’re probably still at it! Let’s wait and watch! Best of luck! Whatever happens will be for the best!
Thank you! Fingers crossed!!
@intstudent2021 Congrats! Did you receive an early write? I didn’t think decisions had been released yet. Not sure in negotiating your offer, but perhaps if you have better offers from comparable schools you could contact admissions about it?
@intstudent2021 did you apply for financial aid? If yes, I read somewhere that there’s an appeal form somewhere on their website if you’re not happy with your aid so that they can take a second look at your financial aid. You could also try emailing them about your situation!
@littlered17 Hey! I’m from Bangladesh as well and would like to major in Biological Sciences at MHC - provided I get in. Also, a lot of the other places that I applied to sent out some of their decisions early. We’ll just have to wait and watch.
@Bluejay21 hi! That’s so cool! I guess we’ll just have to see then. Hoping we all get in!
@smcirish hey!
I don’t know how I got mine early. I’m an international student and applied RD. Yep, perhaps I’ll wait for the other decisions to come out before contacting them about it, if I can.
@littlered17 yes I did apply for FA. I also had a look at the form you’ve mentioned and I’m not sure if my appeal would fit into any of the given categories. I can afford it but it’s just really tough at this point since my sister wants to pursue her postgrad abroad as well (by 2019) and we also have our grandparents to look after (but I’m not sure what proof of elder care I can give)
I should also mention here that they have given me $7000 aid above what I require (as per their calculations), which is extremey generous of them. I hope that won’t discourage them from considering my appeal!
Also, how much aid may I appeal for without sounding greedy and horrible
I mean, if I ask for the real figure that I need and they decide not to give it, will they simply reject my appeal or at least give me a smaller amount that they decide on?
@littlered17 Oh okay
@intstudent2021 they give financial aid according to their calculation of your demonstrated need from the documents you have provided them, so if you do appeal, you should probably call and explain your situation or else there may not be any significant change in your aid.
@StutzzG Are you an international student? My daughter is not…I’m an alum ('86) and older daughter graduated MHC 2013…for those of you considering Mount Holyoke, it’s a magical, wonderful place. Changed my life. Can’t speak highly enough about all that it offers and all that it made me.
I’m from NJ and I also applied RD! I’d likely major in international relations. I’m surprise that they’ve started releasing decisions already. Did they send you an email? Hopefully the rest of our decisions are coming soon!
I was accepted RD last year, and my letter was sent out on March 17 (arrived a little later because I’m far away from MA), so they will possibly release decisions around the same time, for those of you who are waiting.
@possiblecyborg , could you also find your admission status online–on the portal? Or were you only notified via snail mail? Thanks!
You get an email, which will also be available on the portal. They say April 1 to give them time if something goes wrong, but they generally release before that. Then you git the big fat envelope in the mail a few days after that. I’m pretty sure I got mine on a Thursday (two years ago), and I think they did it on a Thursday again last year. So my expectation would be this Thursday.
Sorry for the double post - but Mt. Holyoke was closed on Tuesday and had a delayed opening today because of the snowstorm. I don’t have a crystal ball to see into the minds of the admissions folks, but if they need another day or so to compensate the release might be later than normal.
Yeah, the weather’s been whack (two consecutive snow days!) so I figured admission stuff probably got delayed a bit, unless they were already ahead of schedule.
Does Mount Holyoke tell you in an email? Or just tell you to check a portal?
