Can any experienced parents/students tell me about move in day? I know some schools have upperclassmen/women help unload the car and bring items up the stairs. I’m hoping Bryn Mawr does something like this since my H won’t be able to take the day off.
My D will be moving to the 3d floor of Erdman and I don’t think they have elevators.
I guess we’ll hope for a cool day…

I asked my daughter and she said that she didn't know. I suggest that you call the Residence Life Office (610-526-7333). I trust that your daughter will have a great first year as did mine.

Thanks for responding, invirginia. Calling ResLife is a good idea.
I'm sure we'll manage either way, but I'd never say no to extra help :-)

Typically, help is whomever you can scrounge up. Since freshwomen move in early for customs week, there are few people on campus (which makes it much easier to move in, especially in the larger dorms). My freshman year, our dorm had an amazing housekeeper who brought a giant, rolling trash hauler to our car, unloaded the inside and the top, and rolled it to my room. This past year, I was not as lucky, and with two older (one not able-bodied) parents, it was a little difficult.

My best words of advice are to not pack boxes or containers that are too heavy/bulky/awkward to carry or haul on a dolly upstairs. Collapsable dollies are the best, because they fit in the car easily, are dead useful, and you can buy them for less than 10 dollars at many stores.

Also, here's hoping for decent moving in weather. Last year, it was so cold and wet we swore we saw snow (yes, in August!), but my first year, as is typical, it was the hottest day of the year in Philly :)

Thanks for replying jhalehvismusique. I have a collapsable cart i'll try to fit in the car to help with move-in.
I'm hoping Erdman is easily accessable from the parking lot.

Erdman is definitely one of the most accessible for moving in, since there is parking right next to the building. Good luck!

Customs people generally help the frosh move in. Mine worked very hard to help.

Thanks for the headsup Hanna and jhalehvismusique.
I'm glad to hear Erdman is close to the parking lot. That will be helpful. I'm also glad that we might have some help from the Customs people.
