Move up or get an easy A?

During this summer, I finished the honors pre calculus textbook. I love math to death so I don't know what to do. Should I take calculus BC as a junior, honors calculus, or should I stay in precalculus and easily get an A+? I think taking precalculus at school could be a good or bad thing for me. I could raise my GPA with the honors weight yet simultaneously cheat myself by not learning more maths. Every advanced junior is taking precalculus, so it will seem normal. But on the other hand taking the course again can allow me to have a different perspective and I would be extremely prepared for calculus.

Did you test out of precalculus or did you just read the textbook over the summer?

I just read the textbook and did all the problems, getting the majority of them correct. I do have the option to test out though.

I’m sure it varies from school to school, but you’ll probably have to take some sort of exam to opt out of a year of math. If you score well on the exam, then you are probably ready for calculus. However, what’s the rush to take calculus so soon? If you do take calculus BC as a junior, will you have options for math classes senior year?

Well one can take honors calculus 3 (multivariable) if they have already taken BC by senior year. However the math supervisor frowns on students advancing for some reason, which is really ridiculous.

My math department chair got angry at me (and other students that do the same) when I bring up skipping PreCalculus which I feel is a non-essential entire year of math. And they didn’t like it when I brought up Multivariable, DEs, or AP Stats as senior year math.
Yeah, I feel like I wasted a year in PreCalc in which might be a good idea for you to skip… If I had taken Calc 3 or DEs in high school, I could have a head start on where I am at on my prereq sequence in engineering, but all in all it’s not going to make my graduation go any faster than the current 3-year plan.

Test out of pre calc and take AP. Looks way better to colleges

Why not do Calc AB junior year, and then BC senior year?

I would say calc bc or ab. You know its funny that humanity hardly ever weighs in self-fullfilment into their decision as much as a letter grade or GPA. if you personally feel that you can take bc calc, then go for it. It has a bunch of advantages, and from the high school i went to, you get a week or 3 to see if you like the class, and if you absolutely see yourself failing it, the switch to ab. I would skip the honors calc, because for me personally, i went from pre-algebra (soph), to calc bc (didn’t like it) switched into calc ab, and was golden
