I have a rising senior who is applying to MT programs. Thanks to CC and many other resources, I’m not in a full panic, but there is one question I’d love to have answered: when can we reasonably expect to be finished with auditions? My daughter plans to attend the unifieds in Chicago February 8-10. Is she likely to have auditions any later in February? I suspect our coach will have an answer but she isn’t available right now, so if anyone can share information on this we’d appreciate it. I should add that right now my D has a working list but isn’t really ruling out any programs just yet. THANKS.
It depends on how many schools you are auditioning for and which ones you need to do on campus versus at Unifieds. It also depends on if you do any early auditions (before the end of 2016). That definitely helps lighten the load for the Jan-March audition season. There are some auditions that may want you to do an on-campus callback if they like what they see at Unifieds or elsewhere (Texas State and Oklahoma come to mind but there are others as well). Ds last audition was the last weekend in February but there were some schools that had auditions in March if needed. All that to say, it depends on your list and your schedule.
Thanks, vvnstar. That’s helpful. I was mostly curious whether auditions extend into March, and it sounds like they sometimes do.
Yes, audition dates are offered in March for many schools and for a few schools, in April.
Things CAN run longer- but we were done after Chicago unifies. D did 2 auditions before christmas, and 1 on campus in January - then the rest at unifieds
It’s been a few years, but when S auditioned, Point Park had a March audition and Northern Kentucky had one in April.
My S’s auditions started in early November and went to the last weekend in February. There are auditions offered in March. For example, Texas State has added an on-campus audition date the first weekend in March.
From a non-experienced observer…
Sometimes things change and people add on late auditions, they might change his/her mind of what they want, or they might not get the results they were hoping for.
I would keep my options open.
When my daughter auditioned (she’s a college sophomore now … yikes!) we had planned for her to be done auditioning the beginning of February.
We ended up throwing several more auditions on the calendar as we got into panic mode after rejection after rejection.
Her last audition was March 21st … and she is happy, thriving MT major at her March 15th audition school.
