Believe it or not, you all are 2 months or less away from joining the “tribal elder club”. I’m just a junior member of that club but the card arrives pretty quickly. Much like that stupid AARP membership which has the gaul to show up 2 months before you’ve actually turned 50. (For those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about… see what you have to look forward to?)

Anyway, and especially addressing jeffandann since he’s twisting on the vine at home, you’ve done all you can to help with the process. The rest is up to your daughters/sons. It’s incredibly cool to watch them take over. It’s even cooler to realize you can actually let go.

I still held on just a tad though my daughter’s 1st semester of freshman year but now, after I had her home over break and got enough of a data dump to know that - she’s got it, I’m really out. If she needs me, she knows were I am. 1 year from now you’ll all know what I’m talking about. Meanwhile, breathe because there is nothing more you can do except hunting and gathering like Walker1194. Not sure that ever exactly ends. Best to all!

halflokum- It is great to see them take over. That has been my experience at Chicago so far. I’m just the support person and have enjoyed every minute. She comes out of the rooms chats up a storm and goes of to the next. I thought for sure this was going to be the craziest most chaotic week but it hasn’t . It’s far calmer at Unfieds than I have expected and we had 7 auditions pre scheduled and my D became an audition junkee and we’ve done a lot of extras. Who new.

That’s awesome broadway95! I swear it is harder to be the parent waiting for news at home than to be the one in the middle of it all who gets to witness that they’ve got it. Wish you the greatest success!

Congratulations to all of you for making it thru this overwhelming process! Enjoy this as it goes so fast from here on. My D will be graduating from her BFA MT program in just 3 short months and I can’t believe it is over so quickly!!! She is flying to Saint Louis, Chicago and LA, and driving to Pittsburgh for auditions on the next 4 consecutive weekends - did NY last week. We are very excited for her. Have a wonderful experience as you go through this time!

broadway - that is what happened at Unifieds last weekend. My son loved it from beginning to end, started to do walk-ins because he could, might have even found a few more options. I am glad you are having a wonderful experience!!!

My D ended up loving unified auditions as well. She had 2 dance calls and 6 auditions scheduled over 2 days. She ended up doing 4 dance calls and 12 auditions with walk-ins. She loved it and said it was the best experience for her. She ended up finding a few really good new possibilities, too. She received really good vibes from most. I think only 2 were quiet and straight forward. I would highly recommend unifieds to anyone.

So good to hear! I talked to one of my D’s friends yesterday after his auditions at Unifieds (since we’re in Chicago, he was back at Variety Show rehearsal in the evening) and he was raving about how much fun it was. It sounds chaotic, but I’m relieved to hear that it doesn’t seem that way when you’re there.

I wouldn’t describe Unifieds as fun from a parental point of view but it sure was interesting! My D enjoyed her experience and she really seemed to be peaking in terms of her prepared material. She did four scheduled and four walk ins and three dance calls. That was enough for both of us! We walked away feeling really good about three schools and with a waitlisted status for one. Now it’s hurry up and wait!

Curious about dance calls. None of the 3 schools my D auditioned for had formal dance calls in Chicago. One program held her over to have her dance for them, one asked for her to send a video of her dance, and the third simply wasn’t doing any dance at the Unified. Why do some do the dance call and some don’t?

Jeffandann-some schools have more rooms than others and can accommodate a dance call. Others use rooms at the end of the night, while a couple hold them at a different location. I’m guessing its a matter of preference and cost which schools decide to hold them.

So should we be concerned about getting in to a program if she didn’t dance? Or is more a reflection of what programs emphasize in their decision making?

@why: It was for a Bristish school that was a free walk in so my D did it as a warm up. They liked her a lot and had her for two callbacks. They are only allowed to offer so many international spots and D was told she is waitlisted and they will let her know in March. No biggie.

@jeff: I think it just depends on the school re the dance calls. My D was also held over for an inpromtu dance after her audition. Wonder if it was the same school? It happened to be one of my D’s top choice schools so she was happy about that.

My D did a walk in for a school that she now really likes and now I have to find out if they will stretch academic scholarship deadlines since the posted date is Feb 1st! I guess this stuff comes with the territory!

It’s been so help ful to hear the tips and feelings expressed in this forum from all of you great parents supporting your children in the arts. My D has three more auditions in LA after doing 11 in Chicago. Then we wait. She goes into rehearsals for the spring musical and all of the Drama club activities. These kids work so hard and I admire them so much. I can say the Chicago unifieds seemed so much more relaxing at the Palmer house than here in LA. The hotel is so busy, the elevators are slow and crowded at the airport Hilton. We just got too comfortable I guess. Good luck to everyone !

Well, it’s not an acceptance but good news at our house. My D is a finalist at two different schools for their top academic scholarship, each of which would be a full 4 year ride. And one of them emailed her that she is in a select group being considered for the MT program. Maybe I’ll be able to retire before I’m 120 after all.

Great news, jeffandann! Now fingers crossed that she gets a strong grant from the school she most wants to attend, since it can be hard to walk away from those full-ride offers if she’s admitted to a school that’s a better fit (even though it’s sometimes a good decision to do so).

Great to have happy news during this long wait!

And she just got her call back today for one of the two female leads for her school’s spring musical this year, so not a bad day! If she gets the part in her high school career she will have been a guy, a racist bigot, a prostitute, a fairy queen, and an ape. Only the people on this site would understand why that makes me happy; most of my fronds think I’ve lost my mind.

jeffandann…mazel tov on all the good news!!! I just happened to read your old thread about bad days…today is definitely not one!!! (someone posted on it today so it got bumped…)
