Murray and standarized testing

The W & M website states Murray finalist score 1500 & higher on SAT CR/M.

Is the SAT necessary to be a Murray scholar or is ACT also used?

My son is a HS junior and we are just trying to help him decide testing for spring.

Why not both the SAT and ACT?. I believe W&M will consider the highest score of the 2 and if he takes the SAT more than once , they will superscore it. Our S was not a Murray but did recieve the Monroe. He took the SAT 2x and the ACT once. BTW, (and I am mentioning this because we did not realize this until late in the testing) the ACT has a science component. For more science/math students this test should be considered.

Thanks - He did take both. Waiting on the ACT scores. If ACT is better, then he doesn’t really want to retake either. However, his SAT CR/M falls just shy of 1500. He’d retake if only SAT is considered for Murray.

We consider either the ACT or SAT for the Murray award. The ACT equivalent is above a 34 (a 34 = a 1520 SAT).

Remember there are only 4 Murrays a year right now (we do hope to grow the scholarship in the coming years) so it’s an incredibly selective scholarship.

Thanks for the response! He is well aware that it is very competitive, but he wants to at least be able to put himself in the race.
