Does anyone know about the quality of the music composition program at Cornell?
I am looking for a good school to double major in music composition and computer science, and I heard that Cornell is a good school for double majoring with music. Are there any other good schools for this?

I am not familiar with the composition program at Cornell, but MIT has an excellent composition department and a program that permits a joint major in music and either science or engineering.

Cornell's composition is quite good...Stephen Stucky and Roberto Sierra teach there. Though I'm not the biggest fan of either of their music, I've heard they are very good teachers who are generally very open to different styles, which I find to be an important asset.

On my visit and info session, the senior admissions rep. spoke highly of Stephen Stucky and said that he has even done independent studies with undergrad freshmen. They also have an impressive music library in an brand new music building.

Ah...I've asked this question 3 or 4 times and nobody answered me!! :(

Well, unfortunately, there are not too many composers roaming this board frequently. brahms0788, are you an undergard composer?

Nope, but I'm a classically trained percussionist with interests in composition and theory....does that count? :-)
I'm assuming you get the same bewildered stares from students (and faculty!!) who are shocked to find a prospective music major touring Ivy's and such.
Where did you/will you apply?

I'm a percussionist also! What a coincidence...
Anyway, i haven't really narrowed down my choices...i just keep getting letters and stuff and I'm keeping my options extremely wide right now. Cornell is one of my only major possibilities right now.
