so i decided i really want to major in music. the thing is i have very little experience. i know how to read and write notes (though not quickly) because i have basic knowledge about how to play the piano. i also know majors and minors, but basically nothing else. i can't hum notes by seeing them and i don't have much knowledge about music theory. would i be at a severe disadvantage if i tried to major in music? is it close to impossible to do well? or are a decent number of students like me and trying to start from a pretty basic level? i'm willing to work hard for it but i just want to know what i'm getting myself into. thanks for the advice!

…Uh…realistically, yes, you’re kinda too late. Study something else.

Of course, there’s always gonna be that one guy who says, “Follow your dreams, you never know!!!”

The Music Department minor program could be an option for you. It’s pretty popular and wouldn’t be too time intensive.
