I'm currently a sophomore in highschool, and I'm also beginning to look for colleges and majors for when I hit junior year. Anyways what I would like to know is if there are colleges, that offer a music (I'm a percussionist) and a premed degree, or as the title says, anything that can be transferable if I should apply to med school. And if so, could you link me to the site or just write down the name?

You don’t need to be a premed major.and I’m not sure there is such a degree. For medical school, at a minimum you need to complete the required science and math courses and score well on the MCAT. That can be done with any major . Although it maybe more difficult with certain majors.

There is no such thing as a premed degree. You just need to finish the premed courses and take the MCAT. You can major in whatever you want.

You don’t “transfer” anything from college just as you don’t transfer your high school courses to college. Med school is a whole separate sequence of courses.

Your main decision will be between college/university (BA) and conservatory/music school (BM) degrees. If you want to do percussion performance, it will probably be a BM, which means fewer academic classes and more music. A general music major (BA) will have fewer music classes, often academic music w/out much performance, and more academic classes.

You can go to med school with either, or, for that matter, with any undergrad major. Students can take prerequisites that are needed for med school, between college and med school. There are some programs for this, but you don’t need to worry about that now.

Since you are a sophomore, it is early for deciding whether you want to focus mostly on music or not. Just keep following your interests and see where they lead you.

As others have said, pre med is not a major, it is a pre professional program, you can major in anything and be pre-med. Generally pre med requires 2 years of chemistry (inorganic and organic), 1 or 2 years of bio, usually a year of physics, and several levels of math courses I believe. Obviously, if you went to a conservatory you couldn’t do these there (unless they had some sort of agreement with another school to allow students to take classes there,or theoretically you could take summer courses to do the work, or even do it after college), if you went to a music school within a university you could potentially take the classes, assuming you have time (performance degrees are time consuming).

I agree with others, at this point you don’t have to worry so much about the track in college. You have a lot of options, you may end up not wanting to do music in college, you could do it and then decide to go to med school, there are a lot of paths to the future:)
