<p>Hello.
I am a junior (international) (going to college in 2012)
I would like to apply to US schools
and major in vocal studies and biology.(double degree program)
I haven't taken SAT I yet
but I would like to hear some advice..</p>
<p>here are my stats and extra curricular.
-SAT I: not taken yet, probably will take in october.
last year's PSAT score was 211 but I'm studying now..
and when I take practice exams I get around 2200..
-SAT II: US HISTORY-790, MATH IIC-800
-AP: US HISTORY, MUSIC THEORY, PSYCHOLOGY, MACROECON, MICROECON-5</p>
<p>I take voice lessons twice a week.
I started to take lessons only this year so not that good yet..
but my teacher says if I practice hard I can apply to some top schools.
I'm in my school choir since my freshman year and won the city contest for 2 years.
I'll probably participate in solo contests in september as well.</p>
<p>I also play a traditional instrument and is leader of the traditional music club at our school.</p>
<p>I volunteer at city children's hospital.</p>
<p>My overall GPA until now is 4.87/5.00 (it's different.. not 4.00)</p>
<p>Here are colleges I want to apply to..
-Oberlin
-JHU
-Northwestern
-Rice
-Rochester</p>
<p>I know that in order to get into Eastman , Peabody, Oberlin..
I have to practice much more..</p>
<p>I would like to hear advice on both academics and music..
if they're reach/match..
and please comment on these schools' double degree programs!

<p>You can get into Oberlin for sure. Carnegie Mellon is also strong in the Arts as well. I live near JHU – not impressed with their campus vibe. Northwestern is also a good choice. I think you’ll get in there as well. Good luck!</p>

<p>I would suggest there are few, if any in this subforum that have the background and experience to advise you concerning audition centered/audition driven admissions. Even typical stats and grade parameters can change when coupled with an audition driven process.</p>

You will also need the assessments of your private instructors and those engaged in the profession.</p>

<p>This is a potential red flag. No one can assess your musical skills via an internet forum, but my experience suggests that you may not be competitive from an audition standpoint at the institutions you list. These are extremely competitive. Vocal development however is a slower path than instrumental due to physical maturity and growth development and the learning curve is not necessarily as long. They will be looking for potential as well as current talent and ability. There are knowledgeable posters within the music forum than can best advise you on that aspect.</p>

I am definitely going to devote more time to practice! I started later than most people and only have 1 and 1/2 years till audition…
My voice teacher says that I have potentials- to get into some top music schools in my country (if I practice really hard), but I am not so sure about US schools.
Also my school music teacher(conducts the choir) is very supportive.
