@halflokum - BU they have 4-5x the endowment of Berklee. They have a school of music. They have many faculty from the Boston Symphony. They run the summer program at Tanglewood…
Could have been an interesting combination @clarinetdad16. Agree. But as both Berklee and BoCo have been straight conservatories forever and really do provide a bunch of ying to the yang without a huge course change, I get why that was attractive. I’ll be very interested in watching what happens there. No longer in the game but I feel good about the combination and I think any parent facing a MT decision about BoCo should too. From an MT perspective anyway (which is what this thread is about), this is gold.
Can I ask you how she feels with regards to BOCO’s connections/ network with NY casting directors? I know that some kids have left the school for shows, just wondering how that is handled, as I understand that they don’t want freshman to audition outside the school. Also wondering how they are feeling about the " webcase." An argument can be made that a lot of schools will be dropping their live showcases in the near future, but at the same time, it is a little disconcerting. If anyone can share their thoughts about this it would be much appreciated .
You are not asking me @Andpeggy and nor should you as I know nothing about BoCo except that I’m from Boston originally and know the reputation of BoCo’s program as I do Berklee’s but I will say this,… please don’t pick or not pick a school based on the whole showcase thing. Showcases at this point are overrated as vehicles to provide a fast track to representation. One needs to assume that no matter where the degree comes from, earning representation will likely be something left on the table post graduation. If not, bonus. But expect it will be.
The better question for you as you look at programs is this: What does senior year look like? What coursework includes preparing the student for the business of the business? Because chances are, you will be navigating it on your own no matter what program you graduate from. Expect that as a baseline and be pleasantly surprised if things turn out differently. Code for… don’t pick a program based on showcases. It is very short sighted to do so.
