The best way to prepare for the SATs is not by taking major time consuming and expensive classes and tutors. Just get some SAT books, such as Barron's Writing Workbook For The New SAT, Barron's Hot Words, The Official Guide to the SAT (CollegeBoard's book), and maybe some of Princeton's SAT books. Use the NY Times or other hard to read newspapers, or magizines, as the SAT uses sentence completion sentences just like how it is read in an article, magizine, or newspaper (prefably NY Times). To do sucess on the Passage Based Questions, spend no more than one minute to read the whole passage, just glance at it and think of what the questions are going to be before you even read them, such as what is the purpose of the passage? Why is the author writing about the passage? Notice the types of questions, such as Inference, Vocabulary, Main Context, and Mood questions. On the paired passages, read passage 1 first, answer all the questions, then passage 2 and answer all of the questions. Lastly, answer the few questions asking you to compare and (or) contrast the two passages. For the essay, spend no more than two minutes brainstorming two concrete examples to use that well support your topic. Then just write the essay. I, unlike many other people, do not find the essay hard to write at all. Be sure that the main focus of your essay is in the conclusion, because you want to leave a good impression on your readers so they can give you higher scores. Also you want to end your essay strong and on a powerful note. To do well on the 49 multiple choice questions, just review the grammer and usuage rules and know when to use I and me, diction (word choice), subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, etc. To do well on math, I would focus on probablity, percent, and pattern questions, as I have trouble with these sections only, just work on your weak sections. For the grid ins, answer all questions because you will not lose points for wrong answers. I honestly find the math like 10x easier than the critical reading, and I'm sure many other people think the same, but hey, everybody is different. I hope this first post I wrote helped out and good luck!
