My chance of acceptance to Choate

I’m currently a sophomore who takes a pretty challenging course load. I got an 1170 on the PSAT in October (kind of upset that I didn’t put more effort in) I don’t have the best family situation so I didn’t finish my application last year. I don’t really know where my GPA stands because I was out for a bit. I’ll definitely need financial aid. I hold a job, do my fair share of extra curricula’s and am legally blind. I’ve been through a lot so that’ll help my essays. I’m just struggling because I don’t have much support. I don’t t want my mom to take it personally (me applying to a school four hours away when she leans on me for support) What are my chances?

Hello. Your situation is too complex for this online community. If you have a trusted adult or two (or three) in your life, you may want to confer with them.

Are you only applying to Choate? If finances are an issue, look for schools that will allow you to apply without a fee (you can ask your AO for a fee waiver). Would you be repeating 10th grade? Is there a school counselor who can help you? Just applying to one super-competitive school is a huge gamble that likely will not pay off (just going by their low acceptance rate).
