ADVICE BY STANFORD STUDENTS WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED :))))
THANKS IN ADVANCE :)

You have to get your SAT to at least 2200, or your ACT to at least 33. Those scores are the bare minimum that you need. Any higher is always preferable. As such, I’d say that Stanford is a high reach, with your current SAT.

Are u international? Cuz that would make things harder. Plus that jump ur looking for on ur SAT is quite a lot. Usually ppl only jump about 100 pts. Grades look fine though

I also noticed that you put ur O level and A level grades into a gpa. Just the board exams wont constituate ur gpa. It will also be the internal school examinations. (Midterms, finals, etc) also note that A level subjects are equivalent to AP’s. Just putting that out there.

@Debater1996 I didn’t prepare well for my SAT1, and I’m sure I will get 2200+ this time.

@Muhammad9211 Yes, I’m an international student. Almost all of my internal school results are 95%+ i/c midterms and finals.

I also heard that for internationals, the SAT score doesn’t matter too much.

I am also ranked top 1% throughout my high school.

I agree with Debater1996. 2200+ would be great.

First off, a 4.0 GPA is remarkably low for HYSMC Schools. We also need to know what courses you took, not just the grades. You definitely need to get your SAT scores well into the 2100++ range. And e/c’s like “lots of sports” are a joke to college admissions. They want to see that you played three-four years at the Varsity level for one or possible two sports if you’re really quite the athlete. They don’t care if you played 180 recreational sports.

agreed PP :)^^ Bro, you won’t make Stanford at this rate… cause If you had 1 sport which could talk abt in ur profile up there, then we would consider it getting u in…now though work hard along that steep road … maybe u’ll end up where you want :)

Oh and who judjed your essays…

SAT is really the biggest issue, beyond that your chances are just low because it is Stanford and you are an international applicant. Put some extra time into perfecting your essays.

Sat is your biggest issue. Also, only mention sports you were really committed to. An abundance of sports you gave half a year to wont be as impressive as a sport you dedicated years of your high school career to. Other than that, good stats. It’s a crapshoot for everyone! Good luck :)

^^ Thanks to all the above ppl. Do I need to improve my current SAT2 scores too for STANFORD?

In fact SAT can be more important for international students because it compares you with both local students and international students from other countries.

Most students from my school (also took A-level) who got into top schools would usually have a minimum 2200 SAT and 2400 for SAT 2. Yes SAT 2 is that easy to score full marks if you have studied well for O-level and completed first year of A-level curriculum.

Your ECs needs more focus and depth too. Sports activities probably don’t matter much if you are not playing them at a high level.

I’m sorry to be honest, but unless you are playing a sport at a high level (meaning at least placing in national competitions), you might come off as a student that’s doing decent academically and not particularly talented at anything. Thus Stanford would be a high reach.

By the way, just for comparison:

My friend who scored a 2350 SAT 1, 2390 SAT 2, winner of many international Physics Olympiads and robotics competitions and took the hardest course load in school DIDN’T get accepted to Stanford. He went to Havard though.

It just shows that a Harvard-calibre student can still get rejected by Stanford and you really need to work much harder to even get into the top public schools.

@ienivs
Your information has been very helpful, and thanks a lot for that. What were the grades of your A-level friend who got into Harvard? and your other friends similar to him?

Hi :slight_smile: I just want to piggy-back off your thread if that’s alright.

Okay, so I’m wanting to go to 1) Stanford - and then 2) Harvard, 3) Yale, 4) USC. I really want to go to Stanford because it has the major/s I want, specific professors I want, has the top program for my two extra-curricular interests in the world, is in California, and has a strong network in the San Fran area (which is where I want to live in the future)! I would settle for Harvard, Yale, or USC if I am not accepted by Stanford for similar reasons that I can list upon request; however, I would like to hedge those risks with your help. Please and thank you!!

Moving forward, I have a few questions.

1) If I scored +2300 on my SAT I, do I need to take subject tests?

2) If so, which ones?
-I was thinking Math I, Math II, and spanish with listening. *Do you think Stanford would rather see me do Hebrew or German since they are rare? I don’t know which one will look the best. I’m around 780-800 for span, french, and hebrew, 700+ for german (that lang is hardest for me right now though because I haven’t spoken in a while). I don’t really know how to compare myself with others applying to Stanford, so if you

3) What are your opinions on the arts supplements?
Genres I’d like you to rank for me: Jazz, Opera, Classical, Broadway Musical Soundtrack. I have been told that if it does not fit with my story, then I should exclude it.

4) How well received are applications discussing failure, endurance, and improvement? Experiences that grew you as a person and imply you can not only survive, but prevail despite external tribulations? E.g. Infectious diseases, emotional/physical abuse, rape victims, etc.

5) Does it help if you have a sibling that attended before you? I was told it does not, only parents.

Let me know, thanks :)
