Hello! I'm a U.S. citizen that moved to Peru during the end of 9th grade and had to start from the middle of 3rd year of Secondary School (there are 5 years of Secondary here, so I only had to study for three more years to obtain my degree). I'm taking a gap year before college. I've applied to Reed College by ED, and I wanted to get a clearer idea of my chances.

SAT I: CR: 660, M: 620, W:670 Total: 1950
SAT II: 2nd time taking Lit: 640, Spa: 730, Spa w/ List: 780, 1st time taking Lit: 580 (did not send)
UW GPA: This is a bit hard to answer. My school in Peru did not grade using GPA format. I'm not sure how to convert my grades. I'm not even sure if I should consider all of my classes, since here the same weight is given to classes such as Science and PE. My best guess is: 3rd-3.33, 4th-3.5, 5th-3.83
Rank: 2nd out of a class of 10 (very small school!)
CA Essay: Excellent! I wrote about feeling insecure about my hairy arms and how feminism helped me accept myself. I feel that it was a very unique topic, and I handled it well. The only issue is that I ended one sentence in my conclusion with a preposition, but I think it was necessary.
Why Reed Essay: Also great! I mentioned certain students from Reed Magazine's "What is a Reedie, Anyway?" article and explained why I feel I belong with a community made up of people like this.
Teacher Recs: I strongly feel that my Math teacher wrote a perfect rec. I'm sure my Science teacher praised me in hers, but, because she is not fluent in English, I'm a bit worried about any grammar or spelling mistakes she may have made.
Counselor Rec: The current principal was my English teacher while I was in school. I had a very close relationship with him, and I know his rec must be wonderful!
Additional Rec: I got recs from my private college advisior and from my SAT tutor. My tutor mentioned my first practice test with her (510) and my last (710). I don't know if this was the best idea but the rest of the letter was extremely positive.
Interview: Had one while I was visiting an aunt in NY, and it was pretty good! I was a few minutes late and called beforehand to let my interviewer know. She was still not done with another prospie, so it was okay in the end. In the actual interview, I had a good conversation with her. My only problem was eye contact. Don't know how much that impacted it.
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: Under $10,000. It's actually quite good for Peru. In my CSS Profile, I put that we can pay $15,000 each year because my uncles will be contributing.

ECs:
- Volunteer in recycling campaign (4th grade, 4hrs per week for 36 weeks)
- Intern for main office of toddler-aimed music academy (During gap year, 8hrs a week for 9 weeks)
- Volunteer in 3-day long trip to Arequipa, Peru (5th grade, was basically a trip for 3 people from my class to help out in many schools and spread environmental awareness)
- Read books in English to Spanish-speaking cousin (3rd, 4th, 5th grade, 4hrs per week, 40 weeks per year)
- Volunteer in remodeling impoverished school (4th grade, 10 hrs per day for one week)
- Modeling student (During gap year, 4hrs per week for 8 weeks)
- Volunteer in donation campaign (4th and 5th grade, 3 hrs per week, 36 weeks per year)
- Volunteer in Christmas program for needy students (5th grade, 4 hrs per week for 4 weeks, preparation took 3 of these weeks)
- School choir member (4th and 5th grade, 2hrs a week for 22 weeks)

I know my ECs are pretty volunteer-heavy. My school happened to be located in an impoverished district and continuously offered opportunities to help out. I explain this in my Additional Information section.

Thanks!
