Hi so I am currently a junior and am really starting to worry about college. Some of my dream schools are Tufts, Wellesley, Georgetown, and I know this is a little far fetched but Swarthmore. These are my stats so far and I wanted to know if I have a chance with any of these schools, or if I should look in another direction
Ethnicity: Asian Female
Gpa: 3.7 weighted 4.1
Ap classes this year: Bio, Calc AB, APUSH, and AP English
Region Choir all through middle school and high school
Have been taking classical music lessons for the past 9 years and have passed a few exams with distinction
Editor of school newspaper
On the board for our school Choir Council
Member of Spanish Honors Society
I have a black belt (not sure if that matters or not)
Played field hockey for freshman and sophomore year, mvp and athlete of the month freshman year
Haven’t taken says yet, but aiming for 2250+
I volunteer at a hospital almost every weekend, so far over 40 hours
30 hours of community service other than that
And I have a sibling who goes to Georgetown, idk if that will help my chances
Please help!
The schools you list are a reach for just about any student, given the small fraction of applicants admitted. You, along with everyone else, would be well served by finding schools that are a match and a sure safety. Only after you have done that should you turn to the reach schools. Its the opposite of the way most kids do it, but it really maximizes your chances of a good choice rather than finding out next spring your actual choices are just a few schools you gave 10 minutes of thought to.
Thanks for the advice! Do you have any suggestions for colleges I should look into, because I guess I’m aiming a little too high (smart older siblings can be annoyimg)
What are your academic areas of interest?
I’m thinking about biology or biochem, possibly premed
You are not aiming too high if 1) these are schools you are particularly drawn to and 2) it’s a tentative list anyway. However, now is the time to also be researching a wide variety of schools. If you like your nascent suburban them, try: “The 25 Most Desirable Suburban Schools” / Newsweek. For your interest in a pre-med track, try: “The Experts’ Choice: Colleges with Great Pre-med Programs.”
DON’T ask for chances if you haven’t taken something yet!
It’s impossible to guess what you could get. Maybe you could get 2350… these schools would be lesser interest then.
Siblings help.
Just my point of view.
I’d say asking for names isn’t the best way to go. Get any book about college admissions and read it; shouldn’t take more than a few hours. It will explain how to look for fit. Is the college located in the setting(s) you want such as urban, rural, suburban? Area of the country? Do students live on-campus, off-campus, or commute? Study abroad program? Opportunities for research are readily available? These are just a few of the knobs you can twist in selecting a college. IMHO its better to build at least a rough picture of what you want and then find colleges that match, rather than garnering a collection of names and choosing amongst them.
Why do all these posts look the same with a different brand new screen name? Junior, Asian, no test scores, high reach schools. Chance me?
