I currently go to a CCC and I will be transferring Fall 2014. I just need to know if Berkeley may be too much of a reach for me? My major is Sociology and UCB is one of the top schools for my major. I plan to have phenomenal essays and I am the first in my family to attend college, and I also come from very low income. Here are my Stats:

Fall 2012
English 1: B
Geography: A
Geog Lab: B
Psych 1: A
Math 55 (intermediate algebra): B [NOT A UC TRANSFERABLE CLASS]
Anthro 2: A

Spring 2013:
Math 44 (stat): C
Psych 4: A
Philosophy 5: B
Astronomy 20: A
Health 3: A

Summer 2013:
Health 1: A

Fall 2013: (Current grades, and plan to keep them this way)
English 4: A
Psych 6: A
Sociology 1: A
Astronomy 10: A
Music 5: A

If I keep up my 4.0 this semester I will have a 3.64 UC transferrable GPA.

My ECS:
Open heart Kitchen
Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society
Work for 2 1/2 years at the same place

So you’re pretty okay - that C in Statistics may play against you but good luck.

Do not assume that you will get A’s in your remaining classes, I can see why u failed stats (not to be mean but as a UCLA math major I deal with regressions and the picking the optimal scenario is not a good way to judge risk).

Let offer u a more realistic example: you end up with a cummilative GPA of 3.5
Don’t know if sociology is impacted at cal (it is at ucla) you have about a 50-50 chance of getting into Berkeley. Explaining that you are 1st generation student/ low income may earn u some sympathy points to it might raise ur odds to 60%, so write a good personal statement).

Ur odds of getting at a mid-tier uc are better (around 90%)

Low tier is a shoe in. Good luck with admissions, in my case since I am also a first generation low income (poor). I think that put me over the edge (barely)

You definitely have a chance. When it’s all said and done, you’re probably going to hear of people with better stats than you who got rejected and people with worse stats than you who were accepted. It happens every year. I go to Cal, and I’ve met other transfers with similar gpa’s in humanities majors, so you definitely have a chance. Good luck
